22 July 2024 News
President Joe Biden announced Sunday he was stepping down from his bid for reelection. In doing so he endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris as the Democrats choice to replace him in running for the presidency. Harris issued a statement saying, “With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.” She also said she was honored to get the President’s endorsement.
Democrats quickly fell in line supporting Harris’s candidacy. Among them Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin who said, “I’m proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Today is a new beginning for our party and our country.” Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said he’s been, “proud and honored to support” Biden and said that Biden’s goal of defeating Donald Trump remains.
Democratic Wisconsin Congressman Mark Pocan took a different tact. The 2nd District Congressman called on former President Donald Trump to withdraw from the Presidential Race as well.
Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin said, “For the past year I’ve doubted Biden would be the Democratic nominee. That’s why I’ve said Democrat ideology, policies, and governance are destroying this country-not just Biden.” Johnson says any Democrat including Vice President Harris will be equally destructive.
