TWO COUNTY VEHICLE CHASE
A 33-year-old man and 32-year-old woman from Green Bay are facing charges after vehicle chases in Winnebago and Fond du Lac counties Sunday night that culminated with the suspect vehicle crashing into a tree in the City of Fond du Lac. The crash occurred after a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy used a maneuver to strike the vehicle causing it to go out of control. During the pursuit of the stolen vehicle the Green Bay man driving it almost hit multiple vehicles not involved in the chase, avoided tire deflation devices, and attempts to get it off the streets and highways it was traveling on. The pursuit lasted 15 miles in Fond du Lac County. The driver was treated for minor injuries at a hospital. A deputy took the passenger to a hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. The man and woman are facing multiple charges and had active warrants. Among the charges they are facing are fleeing and eluding, vehicle theft, recklessly endangering safety, drug charges and more.
WINNECONNE MAN FACING ADDITIONAL DRUG CHARGES
Winneconne Police with the help of Omro Police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of South 2nd Avenue in Winneconne Sunday morning. The warrant was the result of previous investigative efforts stemming from drug seizures in the Lake Winneconne Park last Wednesday. Police seized over 100 used syringes, loaded syringes with methamphetamine in them, illegally possessed prescription pills, drug smoking pipes, and drug paraphernalia from the residence. The man living at the residence was already in the Winnebago County Jail on an unrelated matter. He is currently on a deferred prosecution agreement for possessing methamphetamine and will now be facing additional charges as a result of the search warrant and drugs found at his residence.
FDL MAN ARRESTED FOR FIFTH OWI OFFENSE
A state trooper arrested a 64-year-old Fond du Lac man for his fifth operating a motor vehicle under the influence offense Saturday afternoon. After a subsequent investigation Threets was arrested for his 5th OWI offense. He was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw and then to the Fond du Lac County Jail. In addition to the OWI charge he was cited for operating while suspended and deviation from a designated lane.
SOLVING A WINNEBAGO COUNTY COLD CASE
The lead detective on a 61-year-old murder case in Winnebago County says solving the case gives others hope for their cold cases as well. Chris Braman is a Detective Lieutenant for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. He says the Wayne Pratt murder case was passed along to him about 13 or 14 years ago. Pratt was stabbed to death at an Enco gas station along old U.S. 41 outside of Oshkosh in June of 1963. The killer covered Pratt with a blanket leaving some of his own DNA on the blanket. Braman says William Doxtater of Bowler, Wisconsin was a suspect within about a week of the murder. He died in 2022 but this past week DNA evidence, information from original reports, and statements from living witnesses led to him being posthumously charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Braman says they couldn’t have done it if they had not maintained chain of custody for evidence in the case all these years. “Our agency actually changed buildings in the early 2000’s so there was a big evidence shift then, but you know everything chain of custody-wise we maintained it in the event that science got us to where we are now.” Pratt’s wife Marie died about a year ago, but they had a son. Braman says he notified Pratt’s son and Doxtater’s family that they were announcing the case solved. Braman says those involved in the investigation tempered their excitement over solving it knowing what a tragedy it was. The gas station where Pratt was killed is gone now, only a few chunks of concrete and rebar remain.
NO AVIAN INFLUENZA IN WISCONSIN CATTLE
The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Veterinary Services Laboratories says over the past 30 days a highly infectious avian influenza was confirmed in 43 dairy herds in six states including Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota. Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection state order requiring a negative test for Influenza A for lactating dairy cattle prior to moving to fairs or exhibitions is still in effect. No cases of cattle, poultry, or wildlife have been reported in Wisconsin. Nine human cases have been reported in the U.S. since 2022. The Food and Drug Administration and USDA emphasize that the commercial milk supply is safe, and the USDA is confident that the meat supply is safe.
EAA AIRVENTURE IS UPON US
EAA AirVenture 2024 at Wittman Regional Airport is upon us. Last year nearly 680,000 people attended from 92 countries and about 12,000 planes flew into Oshkosh and neighboring airports. Dick Knapinski says the fly-in and convention has a lot to offer and always has a twist or two. The night airshows on Wednesday and Saturday will be capped off with fireworks and this year a display by hundreds of drones. Up to 600 drones will fly in formation and make up figures in the sky. As usual there is some type of tie into an anniversary involving aircraft and this year it is connected the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a turning point in World War II. Both remaining American B-29 bombers will be at AirVenture along with Canada’s Lancaster bomber. AirVenture in Oshkosh runs through this Sunday.
REPRESENTATIVE DALLMAN ON STATE SUPREME COURT
State Representative Alex Dallman says unable to gain a majority in the state legislature Democrats are using a liberal majority in the State Supreme Court to legislate through the bench. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says Democrats are moving their power over to the judicial branch. He says the court is cherry picking cases they want to see flipped and by far the one that would have the biggest impact if it is reversed is ACT 10. Dallman, who represents the 41st State Assembly District, says Wisconsin needs to reign in its justice system particularly the State Supreme Court to make sure that they are making choices based on a nonpartisan outlook of the law and not with legislative intent.
