Brice Turang hit Milwaukee’s fifth grand slam in its last eight games as part of a seven-run fourth inning, and the Brewers rolled to a 7-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Freddy Peralta (6-4) and Jakob Junis combined on a two-hitter to help the NL Central-leading Brewers win their ninth straight home series. Milwaukee hasn’t dropped a series at American Family Field since the New York Yankees took two of three from April 26-28.

The Brewers became the second team in major league history to hit five grand slams in an eight-game span, joining San Diego in 2020.

Milwaukee’s highest-scoring inning of the season backed up a sparkling performance from Peralta, who worked seven innings and retired his last 14 batters.

After Nico Hoerner sent Peralta’s second pitch of the game over the left field wall, the right-hander bore down and struck out eight while allowing only two hits and two walks. Junis walked one over the final two innings.

Christian Yelich hit a 422-foot, two-run homer in the fourth off Kyle Hendricks to put Milwaukee ahead. With one out, Cubs right fielder Ian Happ misjudged a fly ball from Rhys Hoskins, who was credited with a single.

Sal Frelick followed with an RBI base hit, and with two outs, Turang sent his drive over the right-field wall to end Hendricks’ day.

It was Turang’s second grand slam in his last five games and his sixth homer of the season, matching his total as a rookie last year.

Turang started Milwaukee’s flurry of grand slams on June 22 in the ninth inning of a 6-4 loss at San Diego. Three of his 12 career homers have come with the bases loaded.

Hendricks (1-6) gave up seven runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings while striking out three and walking one.

The Brewers start a road trip tonight in Denver against the Rockies. Probable pitchers are Bryce Wilson (5-3, 3.89 ERA) against left-hander Austin Gomber (1-5, 4.63 ERA). First pitch is at 7:40 CDT.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Sunday the Pirates downed the Braves 4-2, and the Cardinals shutout the Reds 2-0.  The Brewers lead the Cardinals by 6 ½ games, the Pirates by 9 ½, the Reds by 11 and the Cubs 11 ½ games out.

In the Midwest League Sunday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won at home over South Bend 2-1. There are no games today.

The Dock Spiders fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon, concluding a four-game stretch with a 2-2 record against the Rafters. This loss brings the Dock Spiders’ season record to 12-19.

The Dock Spiders will return home on Monday to face Lakeshore. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. On Monday, The Dock Spiders will say “Thank You” to Host Families for their passion and support throughout the season. Cam Davis won the Rocket Mortgage Sunday after Akshay Bhatia 3-putted on the 18th hole.

Davis, after a final-round 70, was given his second PGA Tour title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, the same site as his first win three years ago, but Bhatia walked away shaking his head. The 18th green was his only three-putt of the week.

11 people were injured after an escalator at American Family Field, the home of the Milwaukee Brewers, malfunctioned.

The Brewers posted a statement on X, formerly Twitter, saying that an escalator between the terrace and loge levels malfunctioned, causing what they called “an increased downward speed”.

11 people were hurt, with six being taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The other five people injured were treated by onsite physicians and EMS.

Late last year, the Wisconsin state Senate approved a funding bill for American Family Field, with Gov. Tony Evers signing bills to spend a half-billion dollars  to help repair the stadium, among other upgrades. One of the areas the Brewers cited as needing extensive renovation was the escalators.
