DE PERE MAN CHARGED FOR DODGE COUNTY TRAFFIC CHASE

Bond was set at $10,000 cash when a 31-year-old De Pere man made his initial appearance in Dodge County court on felony fleeing an officer, second degree recklessly endangering safety, and resisting or obstructing an officer charges. What the set off the pursuit of Jordan Feemster during the May 25th chase was information from Shawano County that he was wanted in an attempted homicide. Flock cameras that read license plates picked him up driving on U.S. Highway 151 southbound and shortly after heading south on County Highway A. According to the criminal complaint during the subsequent chase Feemster allegedly was going 127 miles an hour and nearly struck several vehicles. In addition to criminal charges he received multiple traffic citations. He will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.

ABANDONED CANOE IN WASHINGTON COUNTY CAUSES CONCERN

Washington County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday evening responded to a report of an overturned canoe, located in the center of the Milwaukee River in the Town of Barton. The canoe was wedged into a downed tree and was unoccupied. Deputies used a drone for a closer look at the canoe and the riverbanks along the Milwaukee River. After a lengthy search Sunday, deputies and the DNR returned Monday to remove the canoe. While removing the canoe a nearby neighbor informed them that two men who were in the canoe had escaped the canoe after it overturned and were picked up. The Sheriff’s Office is looking for the men to return the canoe and the property recovered inside it.

HOUSE PASSES TROOPER CASPER POST OFFICE BILL

Congressman Glenn Grothman’s bipartisan bill to name the U.S. Post Office on Fremont Street in Kiel the “Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building” passed in Congress Monday. It now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration. The bill was introduced last September and was backed by the entire Wisconsin Congressional delegation. While speaking on the House floor Congressman Grothman said, “Trooper Casper’s life was tragically cut short in 2015 as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history.”  He added, “Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe.” Trooper Trevor Casper was shot and killed in a fatal exchange of gun fire with a murder and bank robbery suspect in Fond du Lac on March 24th of 2015. The suspect was also killed in the gun battle. Kiel was Trooper Casper’s hometown.

NEXT GENERATION 911

The Green Lake County Communications Center will soon be moving to a Next Generation 911 service. Chief Deputy Matt Vande Kolk says it will cut down on the number of service outages they have with their current provider Brightspeed. Through AT&T and Wisconsin’s Department of Military Affairs, Green Lake County has received a sizable grant to upgrade its 911 service. He says it is something they have been working on for about 18 months and should be up and running in mid-July. The easiest thing to equate it with is a spider web so the network isn’t shut down if one line is broken. Vande Kolk says it will also transfer more information and data quicker than traditional 911. He notes they have had issues with outages and have been very transparent about that when they do, but many times the outage is in the network and didn’t occur locally. Over the weekend the Green Lake, Columbia, and Waushara County Sheriff’s Offices and others experienced another 911 outage because a fiber optic line was cut between Markesan and Fox Lake.

BERLIN UW HEALTH AGREEMENTS

Berlin Common Council President Luke Dretske says he stayed out of voting when the Council last month approved agreements with UW Health Business Associates and UW Health EMS Agency for training, education, travel and other resources. He explains that he didn’t want there to be a perceived conflict of interest with his role as a Green Lake County supervisor because the county board does have a say on EMS services in the county. He points out ThedaCare wasn’t being paid for the services they provided to the city’s EMS service, and they were getting complaints about that service. Dretske says the agreements approved by the city won’t affect which hospitals ambulances are going to or patient transfers.

2023 TOWN SQUARE ANNUAL REPORT AVAILABLE

When Town Square Community Center opened its doors in the vacated Green Lake County courthouse building in 2012, it was uncertain whether a nonprofit community center could operate sustainably without public funding. Over a decade later, the organization reported that its 11th year in operation brought 52,000 visitors and over half a million dollars earned and reinvested back into the community through programs, events, and gathering spaces. Town Square Executive Director Kristin Anderson says, “2023 was a bustling year with 250 programs, 108 events, and substantial upgrades to our treasured historic building.” According to Town Square’s 2023 annual report, just over half of its revenue was from fundraising, just under a quarter came from program income, and the rest was split between earnings from monthly Bingo, Hangers resale shop, and rent for office and event space. The Town Square 2023 report is now available online.
