UPDATE;
Yesterday afternoon divers from the Columbia County and Sauk County Sheriff’s Offices, with assistance from the DNR were able to recover the body of a 63-year-old man who had drowned in the Wisconsin River/Lake Wisconsin. He had gone under the surface Saturday afternoon and did not return. The County Dispatch Center received several 911 calls at 1:53 Saturday afternoon. Several area residents searched for the man on their personal watercrafts and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Dive Team was summoned. The search was called off due to darkness Saturday night and resumed at 8 am yesterday morning. The man’s body was recovered and removed from the water at approximately 1:13 Sunday afternoon. His name has not been released.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office continues its search for a 63-year-old man who went underwater on the Wisconsin River/Lake Wisconsin Saturday afternoon and did not return to the surface. The County Dispatch Center received several 911 calls at 1:53 Saturday afternoon. Several area residents searched for the man on their personal watercrafts and the Sheriff’s Dive Team was summoned. The search was called off due to darkness Saturday night and resumed this morning. The Sheriff’s Office Chaplain was on the scene providing support and comfort to the family. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Wisconsin DNR, Poynette Fire Department, Merrimac Fire Department, Poynette EMS, the State Patrol, and local boaters.
