The state’s Department of Transportation recently announced proposed improvements on State Highway 23, U.S. Highway 151, and U.S. Highway 45 in the city of Fond du Lac, and the towns of Taycheedah and Empire in Fond du Lac County. The proposed improvements are part of a statewide initiative to bring existing curb ramps on state facilities into compliance with standards outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Construction is currently scheduled for 2028. The project aims to address curb ramp deficiencies by installing and updating curb ramps to meet ADA compliance when possible. This will remove or reduce obstacles and barriers to pedestrian travel.  Project maps, curb ramp exhibits, and location displays are available for public view online. The public is encouraged to review the proposed improvements and provide input. The website provides three methods for comment: Email, phone, and comment form with a prepaid mailer available for download.

ROKY REMEMBERED

Green Lake County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Vande Kolk says the death of their K9 Roky (ROCKY) came about suddenly. A couple of weeks ago he was diagnosed with cancer and had to be put down. Vande Kolk says Roky would have been 10 years old on June 21st and this week they will have a private ceremony to honor him. He says Roky and his handler Sergeant Michael Prachel successfully removed significant amounts of drugs and criminals who traffic them during the course of Roky’s career. The Yellow Lab also brought joy to classrooms and community groups when he visited for demonstrations. Vande Kolks says Roky also loved to get a scratch or pat on the head, and would visit his office, the Sheriff’s office or others frequently.  The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department has two other K9 Officers, Ash and Kai (KEYE) both are German Shepherds. Vande Kolk says at some point they will replace Roky with a third K9 but it is still too early to think about that.
