FDL COUNTY JAIL AD HOC COMMITTEE FORMED
The Fond du Lac County Board last week approved the formation of an ad hoc committee to take a look at building a new jail. The current jail is at capacity and is no longer getting revenue from housing inmates from outside of the county. The County Board overwhelmingly approved the resolution forming the committee. There were a couple of questions about committee membership. County Board Chairperson Steven Abel said Chief Deputy Sheriff Kevin Galske will bring expertise on the jail to the committee. In addition a member of the Public Safety Committee will also be among the ad hoc committee’s membership. The ad hoc committee is expected to bring in some experts and tour other jails, but County Executive Sam Kaufman says it will be up to the committee how they structure their meetings and go about coming up with recommendations for the County Board. The County has land adjacent to the County Highway Department on Hickory Road for the site of a new jail.
RIPON PUBLIC ART ORDINANCE
The Ripon Common Council tonight will consider a Public Art Ordinance. It would create a process for the display of Public Art including a permit and an agreement with the city. The Plan Commission last week voted unanimously to recommend the ordinance to the Common Council. City Administrator Adam Sonntag told the Commission applications would go through the Plan Commission and they would decide whether to recommend an application to the Common Council for approval. Sonntag says Public Art would include murals, statues, sculptures, and other forms of art that could be located in the right of way, downtown, city parks, and on private property within view of the public. There would be restrictions such as not covering a window or façade, and business or company brands would not qualify as art. The applicant would be required to carry $1 million in liability insurance and maintain the art. If the art was damaged by graffiti the owner wound be required to have the graffiti removed. The Council meets tonight at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at Ripon City Hall.
GREEN LAKE COUNTY OPIOID SETTLEMENT
The Green Lake County Board last week approved a resolution that will help finalize an agreement with the Kroger Company in an opioid class action lawsuit. County Supervisor Luke Dretske says the settlement agreement dates back to 2018. He says there were no real questions about the resolution, though one supervisor wondered why attorneys involved in the lawsuit were getting a 25 percent share of the settlement. He says that was one of the terms in the 2018 agreement. Dretske says the settlement amount has to be determined, but typically money from opioid settlements is used for prevention education, treatment, and abatement. Sixty-six other counties were also involved in the lawsuit that went after manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of opioid pharmaceuticals in an effort to hold them financially responsible for money and resources expended to combat the opioid epidemic.

During the Library Construction, the library will be temporarily relocating to the old United Methodist Church at 107 East Washington Street in Brandon starting in late July. The grand reopening will be held next June. The Brandon Public Library is listed on both the Wisconsin Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places.
FUNDRAISER FOR BGCTC WAS A SUCCESS
The Resource Development Director for the Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area says their recent “Drivin’ Fore the Club” fundraiser at the Mascoutin Golf Club was a success. Kassidy Walters says it was about having a good time while raising money to support their operations in Berlin, Green Lake, and Ripon. She says one of those efforts “Open Doors” helps youth with basic needs expenses. She says examples of that would be money used to purchase gym shoes, clothing, hygiene products, and other basic needs for use during the school year or at the club. She says between the three sites they serve over 1,000 kids and they are expecting even more when the new facility in Ripon opens. She says the fundraiser also cushions the blow of losing their largest source of funding. Those who would like to donate to the club can do so online at their website.
