6/1/24 Award-Winning Artist Featured at Town Square in June

1 June 2024 News

GREEN LAKE, WI, – The Town Square Lobby Gallery will feature the work of Milwaukee native Mark Kanitz for the month of June. The gallery is open during Town Square’s regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m – 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is located at 492 Hill St, Green Lake, WI.

Kanitz has won several awards for his painting including being named Wisconsin Wildlife Federation’s artist of the year eight times. He recently won the Wisconsin DNR pheasant stamp contest. His passion is creating original artwork on shed antlers and other unique mediums.

“I always enjoy seeing Kanitz work in the lobby,” Zoe Niemuth, Program Coordinator reflects.  “He has such a beautiful way of incorporating nature into all his art work.”

Kanitz grew up in Milwaukee but has always enjoyed and been fascinated by nature and the outdoors. He earned a degree in Wildlife Management from UW-Stevens Point. Mark was inspired by other wildlife artists’ works which gave him the motivation to try painting himself. He found his niche as a wildlife artist when he combined his hobby of shed antler hunting with painting. It’s very fulfilling for Kanitz to search for and find a special antler and then use his natural talent to create a unique painted antler piece. Adding sculpture and replication have made the possibilities endless. Mark feels very blessed by his talent and enjoys sharing it with others.

The Lobby Gallery is devoted to showcasing local artists, and is the popular local showcase for the latest works of the area’s most outstanding artists.
