5/2/24 Mount Horeb School Shooting Incident

2 May 2024 News

The Mount Horeb School District has cancelled classes today after a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed trying to enter a middle school with a gun. Mount Horeb Police responded to the school after receiving a report about someone outside of it with a weapon. They had to use deadly force. The boy was a student in the district. He was not able to enter the school. No one else was injured. The school district went into a full lockdown around 11:16 Wednesday morning.  Law enforcement officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave while the shooting is being investigated.  Governor Evers issued a statement saying, “I’ve been in contact with local school district officials to extend my full support for students, educators, staff, and their families as they grapple with what has undoubtedly been a scary and traumatic day for everyone involved.”  Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly also issued a statement saying, “My heart broke today, with the news of the shooting and death outside of Mount Horeb Middle School. I’m sad for the great sense of anxiety and trauma caused for students, school staff, and the community.” (Mount Horeb School District logo).
