5/5/24 DOJ Releases More Details About Mount Horeb School Shooting

5 May 2024 News

Officials with the state’s Department of Justice say the 14-year-old boy shot and killed outside the Mount Horeb Middle School last Wednesday morning was carrying a pellet rifle. A village resident called 911 late that morning reporting a person moving toward the school with a backpack and carrying what appeared to be a long rifle. Police officers responded and found the person east of the school’s main entrance. Officers directed him to drop the weapon, but he pointed it at them. Officers discharged their firearms striking the subject. Lifesaving measures were used on him, but he died at the scene. The weapon recovered at the scene was a Ruger .177 caliber pellet rifle. No one else was injured. Involved officers were placed on administrative leave. The involved officers were wearing body cameras during the incident.
