5/29/24 Names Released in Fatal Dodge County Crash

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the four teens killed in a collision between their pickup truck and a semi at the intersection of State Highway 16 and 60 and County Highway TT early Monday morning. Nineteen-year-old Luis Gamillo of Sun Prairie went through a stop sign with his pickup truck. He died in the crash as did his passengers’ 18-year-old Alix Hernandez of Fall River, 17-year-old Erik Gamillo Calzada of Sun Prairie, and 16-year-old Ivan Herrera of Sun Prairie. Eighteen-year-old Joseline Herrera of Madison was taken to the UW-Hospital in Madison where she remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the semi, 57-year-old Jeffrey Brown of La Farge, was treated and released from an area hospital.
INTERSECTION OF DODGE COUNTY FATAL CRASH HAS A HISTORY
In the wake of a fatal accident at State Highways 16 and 60 and Dodge County Highway TT early Monday morning that cost four teens their lives; Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt has released more information about that intersection’s traffic history. Schmidt says in the last 10 years, there have been nine prior crashes. Five were property damage only, two had suspected minor injury crashes, two were suspected major injury crashes, and there was one prior fatal crash where two individuals passed away. The Dodge County Highway Department and Dodge County Traffic Safety Committee have studied the intersection and recommendations have been made to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The DOT has not approved any of the requests. Some of the enhancements requested included flashing lights on the stop signs, reflectors, and others.
