26 May 2024 News
Two women were rescued from the Rock River after their kayaks capsized and they were stuck in downed trees Saturday night. They were unable to rescue themselves due to the swift current. One of them was able to call the Fond du Lac County Communications Center. A Sheriff’s Sergeant was in the area the call was received from and they were found just north of Highway 49 near Church Road in the Town of Waupun. The Sergeant located a 40-year-old Beaver Dam woman and a Good Samaritan who was trying to keep her above the water line. The Sergeant entered the water and used rescue equipment to keep both afloat and pull them to shore. The Waupun Fire Department was able to reach the other woman, a 52-year-old Waupun resident. She was freed from the downed tree and brought to shore. They weren’t injured and their kayaks were recovered from the river. The time of the rescue call was 7:24 pm.
