25 May 2024 News

Columbia County Sheriff’s officials have released more information about a fatal accident in which a driver left a 21-year-old Portage woman trapped and deceased in the crashed vehicle. Kayla Mcclenithan died in the crash while the suspected driver 26-year-old Keegin Neveln fled the scene on foot after the May 19th accident. He has since been charged with Hit-and-Run-Involving Death and Knowingly Operating While Revoked. His cash bond was set at $75,000. He has a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. Meanwhile a second man, 54-year-old Kenneth Neveln of rural Portage is facing charges of Harboring or Aiding a Felon and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. He was released on a $1,000 cash bond and will be back in court on June 3rd. The crash occurred at the intersection of Muskrat Road and Malisch Road in the Town of Lewiston. The preliminary investigation shows that alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. (Columbia County Sheriff’s photo).
