5/22/24 Strong Storms Move Through the Area Overnight

22 May 2024 News

Several rounds of strong storms prompted Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings in the area last night. Fond du Lac County had three separate Tornado Warnings as previous warnings were extended. Green Lake and Waushara counties and others also received Tornado Warnings. Winds packing speeds of 70 miles an hour or more downed trees and power lines, and heavy rain produced some temporary street flooding. Electric utilities worked overnight to restore power. Ripon had outages and Waupun City Administrator Kathy Schlieve says that the Waupun Utility was working to restore power to approximately 270 customers in the central portions of the city. She says no injuries were reported. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 9:43 pm from a person whose SUV was swept off of State Highway 23 eastbound  near County Highway UU by a large gust of wind. The vehicle was damaged, and the driver suffered a cut to a foot but refused transport by ambulance. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office reported some minor flooding on State Highway 68 southwest of Waupun near Ver Hage Road and State Highway 33 east of State Highway 67.
