FDL HIGH SPEED CHASE AND ARREST
Speeds reached 65 miles an hour during a traffic pursuit in Fond du Lac Monday night that ended in the arrest of a 45-year-old Fond du Lac woman. It began when a vehicle drove through a construction zone and three intersections without stopping for traffic signals. Officers tried to pull her over several times and were joined by Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies in the pursuit. Ultimately she was stopped during a high-risk traffic stop by police officers and deputies. She was arrested on two felony counts of fleeing an officer, and a felony charge of throwing or discharging bodily fluids at public safety workers. She was also cited for traffic violations of OWI first offense, failure to stop at a stop sign, operating after suspension, and imprudent speed.
TWO HURT IN WASHINGTON COUNTY COLLISION
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 45 and Washington County Highway H in the Town of Kewaskum Monday evening. Sheriff’s officials say a 64-year-old Town of Farmington resident was heading south on U.S. Highway 45 and attempted to make a left turn onto County Highway H eastbound. A northbound vehicle on U.S. Highway 45 driven by a 69-year-old Campbellsport area resident collided with the southbound vehicle at the intersection. A 93-year-old Town of Farmington resident who was a passenger in the southbound vehicle was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa with serious injuries. The Campbellsport area resident was taken to Froedtert Hospital in West Bend with non-life-threatening injuries.
SUBSTANTIAL BATTERY INCIDENT IN OSHKOSH
Oshkosh Police say the victim of a substantial battery Tuesday afternoon was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with injuries. Just before 3 pm officers responded to the Wisconsin Resource Center at 1505 North Drive for a report of a substantial battery incident between two men. The incident happened in the courtyard of the facility and no one else was injured. Neither the 56-year-old victim nor the 41-year-old suspect is an employee of the facility. The Oshkosh Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident.
CLICK IT OR TICKET UNDERWAY
The national seat belt campaign, Click It of Ticket, is underway and runs through June 2nd. The national seat belt use rate in 2023 was 91.9 percent. Participating law enforcement agencies during the enforcement effort will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt enforcement, writing citations day and night. Of the males killed in crashes in 2021, 54 percent were unrestrained. For females killed in crashes, 42 percent were not buckled up. Dodge County Sheriff’s Sergeant Wolfe says, “Buckling up is the simplest thing you can do to limit injury or save your life during a crash. We see the results of not wearing a seat belt all the time. We see the loss of life.”
OSHKOSH ARENA
During a closed session last week the Oshkosh Common Council got an update on the financially troubled Oshkosh Arena. There is a potential buyer and Oshkosh city officials are hoping for a good outcome. The Oshkosh Herd, the G-League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, won’t work with the current owner and they have a lease with the arena through 2026. Oshkosh City Councilman Jacob Floam sits on the city’s parks board which deals with the arena. He says a sale of the arena would be the best thing that could happen. He says people connected with the Herd say they do want to stay in Oshkosh. If the team is sold the new ownership would assume the responsibility of paying the $300,000 in property taxes that are owed for the arena. Floam says the new owner would benefit from the tax incremental financing on the 80,000 square foot building. The Oshkosh Arena is the key anchor of the Sawdust District Redevelopment.
