K QUARRY ON MEETING AGENDA
The group Friends of the Green Lake Conservancy is urging its members and interested residents to attend a meeting of the Green Lake County Land Use Planning and Zoning Committee to voice their opposition to a proposed quarry. Kopplin & Kinas is asking for a conditional use permit to create a mine called K Quarry a half-mile east of what would have been the Skunk Hollow Mine on the same limestone ridge off County Road K. The proposed mine is being opposed for many of the same reasons there was opposition to the Skunk Hollow Mine. The meeting is at 9 am in the County Board Room of the Green Lake County Government Center in Green Lake. The item is not expected to come up on the agenda until at least 9:30. Those unable to attend in person can attend virtually through Microsoft Teams.

MOCK CRASH DEMONSTRATION AT WAUPUN HIGH SCHOOL
Students at the Waupun High School got to observe response to a mock traffic crash at the school Wednesday. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Waupun Police, and Waupun Fire Department staged the scenario. Students had the opportunity to see what agencies do during the course of a crash from first responders’ medical care to the investigation of the crash. During the simulation Waupun Police investigated the at-fault driver for operating while impaired and arrested the driver for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. OSHKOSH PROPERTY ASSESSMENTS MAILED OUT
The City of Oshkosh Assessor’s Office is conducting a revaluation of all properties this year for the purpose of updating assessed values to reflect current market conditions. Notices of assessment will be mailed to residential and commercial property owners this month. The last time Oshkosh’s assessments were updated to market value was in 2017. Cities are required to conduct periodic revaluations by state law. If the property owner feels the new assessed value is inaccurate, the city encourages property owners to contact the city Assessor’s Office at 920-236-5070 to discuss how staff established the new value. Property owners can discuss their assessments with the city through June 14th. If the property owner still does not agree with the changed assessment, a five-member Board of Review examines assessments and listens to property owners’ concerns. Board of Review hearings begin on July 10th for property owners who choose to formally appeal their property’s assessed value.

RONY’S RECRUITMENT FUNDRAISER
For the first time in 10 years the Ripon Police Department is holding a major fundraiser for its K9 program. At the end of the year their current K9 Rony is retiring prompting the need for his successor and lending the name “Rony’s Recruit” to the fundraiser. Police Chief Bill Wallner says Rony has given them nine good years apprehending criminals, detecting drugs, finding lost people, and acting as a friendly ambassador with schools, businesses, and community organizations. But with recent medical issues it is time he become a dog of leisure. Chief Wallner says community donations have always paid for their needs for the K9 program, but the last big push was when they got Rony. Donations can be dropped off at the Ripon Police Department or made online through the Fond du Lac Area Foundation. Checks should be made out to Fond du Lac Area Foundation with Ripon PD-K9 Fund in the memo line. A new dog will be purchased and trained later this year. (Ripon Police Department photo).

MAYVILLE ACTOR FINDS ROLES IN THEATER AND FILM
Mayville resident Dan Bell’s love of acting has been going on for more than half a century. He was a founding member of the community theater group the Marais Players in 1971. He also worked with the Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre. Then he got involved in film when he saw an ad in the Fond du Lac Reporter in 2001 about auditions for an independent film “Hollywood Wisconsin.” One of the roles was for a military official so Dan showed up in uniform; he is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Civil Air Patrol. Since then he has been involved in 51 other films mostly independent. In 2009 he was a credited extra in the film “Feed the Fish” which starred Tony Shaloub. He was also in “Thin Ice” filmed in Minnesota in 2011 which featured Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup, and David Harbour. His last role was for Salty Earth Pictures in Fort Atkinson. In “One on One” he has a co-starring role as a church councilman. It’s about a former police officer who went into the ministry. Dan says the difference between theater and film is that there is instant gratification from the audience in theater. “One on One” comes out this fall.
