A new chapter is being written in the storied history of the Green Bay Charity Softball Game.

Packers’ legend and longtime host Donald Driver announced Friday this year’s game will be his last. He is handing his hosting duties over to quarterback Jordan Love.

“It started with Brett, and then after Brett retired, he gave it to me. And then I passed it on to the great Jordy Nelson, and Jordy passed it back to me, and we continued,” Driver said in a news conference.

Love said he’s honored to be the next in line to host the annual softball game.

“I’m very excited. Just the tradition of this softball game. Since I’ve been here, I’ve seen pictures of guys way back when playing in this, so it’s awesome,” Love said.

Funds raised at the Green Bay Charity Softball Game benefit local non-profits, as well as those run by Packers players. Love introduced his new venture, the Hands of 10ve [Love] Foundation, which he said will work to inspire youth to participate in sports, support the law enforcement community and bring awareness to mental health and suicide. All three hit close to home for Love. His father was a police officer who committed suicide when Love was 14 years old.

On the diamond, Love did some damage his first time up. He won the home run derby, then crushed one, deep center field. It one-hopped the fence for single.  Team Offense won big.

Kaukauna entered Friday’s game against Kimberly looking to become just the fourth high school softball program in the country to win 100 straight games and all that was standing in the way was its rival.

Earlier in the season Kaukauna beat the Papermakers 11-1, but now this game was for 100. Kaukauna scored two runs in each of the first two innings and cruised to an 11-1 win over Kimberly in five innings.

When the season started Kaukauna was riding an 81-game winning streak

With 100 straight wins in the books, Kaukauna will now aim to become the second school in state history to win four consecutive state softball titles. Stevens Point won four straight titles from 2001-2004.
