CHICAGO MEN SUSPECTED OF MAIL THEFT AND FINANCIAL FRAUD

A 29-year-old Chicago man suspected in a multi-county mail theft and financial fraud scheme was sentenced in Winnebago County court Monday. Dionta Bratcher was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 2 years of extended supervision on a felony theft of mail charge. That will run concurrent to the two years in prison he was sentenced to in a Brown County case last week. RIPON PUBLIC WORKS GARAGE

Ripon city staff recently met with representatives of the firm designing a new public works garage for the city. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says with the design complete they can move along with the project. The Common Council recently approved the purchase of heavy equipment that will be put into the garage. Sonntag says they should be able to bid the project out in the next few months. Estimated costs for the project increased earlier this year, but the city is still hoping to keep the overall cost at $10 to $11 million. Sonntag says the build itself will take up to a year-and-a-half. Once it is complete the new building adjacent to the current public works building will house both the Public Works and Water Departments.

PLAYGROUND PARK REVAMP

Events are scheduled through the upcoming months to support an effort to put in all-inclusive playground equipment at Playground Park in Green Lake. The Playground Pals a group of paraprofessionals and special education teachers are behind the Playground Park Revamp. Amanda Castleberry is the Project Manager. Her 7-year-old daughter Johnnie was born with a genetic disorder and for Johnnie the equipment at the park just isn’t the right fit. They need a total of $640,000 for the project with $440,000 of that for the playground and another $200,000 to replace the special surface after 10 years. So far they’ve raised $75,000. Amanda says they appreciate every donation and any type of support they can get whether that’s a monetary donation or through volunteering. They do have a couple of fundraisers coming up this month. They will be part of the Adam’s Rib Community Fundraiser this Saturday and a parking lot party at Crossroads on Saturday, May 18th.  They do have a website and Facebook page under the Playground Park Revamp name.

OSHKOSH BRIDGE PROJECT WEBSITE

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation tells us a State Highway 44 Bridge website is now available to view proposed improvements to the State Highway 44 or Wisconsin Street bridge structure over the Fox River Bridge in Oshkosh. The need for the project is to prevent the deterioration of the structure steel caused by the corrosive effects of the natural environment. The project team is proposing a new paint system that will preserve the structure integrity of the load steel members and extend the service life for the bridge along State Highway 44. It will also reduce future maintenance costs.  The website includes maps of the project limits and location, scope and schedule, traffic impacts, displays and exhibits, and temporary business signing information. The public is welcome to view the new design website and provide comments before the final design. There is a comment form on the website with a prepaid mailer to reply to the project team.
