From Wayne Mausser:

The Brewers open their home season later today as they host the Minnesota Twins at American Family Field. Milwaukee is off to a 3-0 start after sweeping the Mets in New York.

The Mets will start right-hander Louie Varland, who was 4-3 last season while the Brewers counter with right-hander Jakob Junis, who also had a 4-3 record last year.

First pitch is at 3:10 this afternoon.

Yesterday in the NL Central the Cubs won at Colorado over the Rockies 5-0 and the Reds beat the Pirates 6-3, the Pirates downed the Commanders 8-4 and the Cardinals beat the Padres 6-2.

Also on Tuesday the Astros Ronel Blanco threw the first no-hitter of the season as Houston shutout Toronto 10-0.

The 30-year old righthander walked the first batter he faced before sending down 26 Blue Jays in a row. A two-out walk to George Springer in the ninth prompted Espada to get a reliever to warm up and catcher Yainer Diaz to stroll to the mound for a breather. Blanco got Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to ground out to second base on his 105th pitch to polish off the first no-hitter of the 2024 season.  Blanco struck out seven.

Iowa and Kaitlin Clark continue to roll as the Hawkeyes beat LSU 94-87 to advance to the Final Four.  Clark scored 41 points and outdueled LSU’s Angel Reese, who had 17, in a much talked about rematch of last season’s championship game. Reese left the game after twisting her ankle early in the second quarter, but returned later in the quarter.

Clark had 41 points, 12 assists and 7 rebounds, breaking even more records in what has been a record-shattering senior season. She was named the regional’s Most Outstanding Player.

In the other Elite Eight matchup UConn moved on to the Final Four, holding off USC 80-73.

This Friday Iowa will face off against UConn while North Carolina State plays South Carolina.

In the NBA tonight the Bucks, after an off-day, are at Washington to take on the Wizards.  Milwaukee is second in the Eastern Conference with a 47-27 record, 11 ½ games behind the first-place Boston Celtics.

The Associated Press on Monday named Neenah Rockets star Allie Ziebel as the girl’s high school basketball Player of the Year.

She finished her career with 2,819 points, 859 rebounds and 363 3-pointers.

The 6-foot Ziebel has accepted a scholarship offer from UConn.

Ziebell is joined on the first team by Arrowhead sophomore Natalie Kussow, McFarland senior Teagan Mallegni, Verona senior Taylor Stremlow and Pewaukee junior Amy Terrian.

The girl’s coach of the year is Pewaukee’s Jim Reuter after leading the Pirates (29-1) to their first state championship.
