GREEN LAKE COUNTY 911
The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department is in the process of upgrading its 911 phone service. Chief Deputy Matt Vande Kolk says a 911 and phone service outage last month, lasted about 12 hours. It happened because a fiber optic line was cut in Missouri. Through AT&T and Wisconsin’s Department of Military Affairs, Green Lake County has received a sizable grant to upgrade its 911 service. He says it is a project that has been going on throughout the state and there are a lot of agencies going through the same transition. He says the new system should be more reliable and will allow them to carry more data. Vande Kolk says it will provide the network for next generation 911 with 911 to text, video, and other capabilities. He says they hope to have the new system online in June.

NEW FISHING TOURNMENT REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT
Fishing tournaments that are statewide or regional in nature, seasonal without specific fishing dates or have fewer than 20 boats or 100 participants are now required to register with the DNR. Registration of these tournaments is free of charge. The DNR regulates fishing tournaments or organized competitive fishing events where money or prizes are awarded to protect fish populations from overharvest and to avoid crowding or conflicts among waterbody users. Larger tournaments and some specialized tournaments are monitored and regulated through a paid permit system. Tournament organizers will be able to submit their registrations using simple online or paper forms that ask for organizer contact information and event information. Registrations are required to be submitted 72 hours before the start of a tournament. Once submitted, registrations are complete, and no approvals are required. The new fishing tournament registration requirement went into effect Monday.
