Pascal Siakam scored 37 points and the Indiana Pacers overcame another fantastic first-half performance from Damian Lillard to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 125-108 on Tuesday night and tie their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series at a game apiece.
Indiana snapped a 10-game playoff losing streak that began with a Game 7 loss to Cleveland in a first-round series in 2018. The Pacers were swept by Boston in 2019 and by Miami in 2020.
Two nights after scoring all 35 of his points in the first half of the Bucks’ 109-94 Game 1 victory, Lillard had 26 by halftime Tuesday and finished with 34.
It wasn’t enough. Lillard didn’t get enough help with the Bucks once again missing two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo due to a strained left calf.
Antetokounmpo hasn’t played since he was hurt in an April 9 victory over the Boston Celtics.
“(He) shot today, was on the floor a bunch,” Bucks coach Doc Rivers said during his pregame media session. “He’s getting closer.”
Myles Turner scored 22 points and Andrew Nembhard 20 for the Pacers. Tyrese Haliburton had 12 points and 12 assists.
Milwaukee’s Brook Lopez scored 22 points and shot 6 of 7 from 3-point range. Khris Middleton scored 15 points. Bobby Portis had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Milwaukee rallied early in the fourth when Indiana’s Obi Toppin was called for a flagrant-1 foul against Pat Connaughton on a drive to the basket. That enabled Milwaukee to retain possession after Connaughton sank a free throw that completed a three-point play to cut Indiana’s lead to 92-88.
But after Milwaukee’s Jae Crowder missed a 3-pointer, Indiana reeled off eight consecutive points in a 74-second span to grab a 12-point advantage with 9:17 left. Indiana ultimately pushed its lead to 23 points.
The series heads to Indianapolis for Game 3 on Friday.
Andrew McCutchen led off the bottom of the first with a home run for the second straight game, Bailey Falter took a shutout into the eighth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 on Tuesday night.
McCutchen hit the first pitch of Tobias Myers’ major league career down the left-field line for his 24th career leadoff homer and his 100th long ball at PNC Park. McCutchen connected off Joe Ross on Monday night in the Pirates’ 4-2 win. McCutchen became the first Pirates player to hit a leadoff homer in back-to-back games since Adam Frazier in 2019. McCutchen is 5 for 8 in two games since manager Derek Shelton moved him to the top of the batting order, boosting his average from .173 to .233.
Pinch-hitter Connor Joe pushed the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single in the sixth inning.
Falter (2-1) was lifted after Gary Sánchez’s leadoff home run in the eighth — one of just three hits off the left-hander, who had a career-high eight strikeouts and two walks.
Since the second inning of his season debut on March 31 at Miami, Bailey Falter has posted a 1.73 ERA in 25 innings with a .154 opponents’ average in four starts.
Bednar pitched a perfect ninth for his second save in as many nights and fourth of the season in seven chances, finishing a three-hitter.
Pittsburgh has won the first two games of the four-game series after losing six straight. The Brewers arrived on a four-game winning streak.
McCutchen’s homer was the only run Myers (0-1) allowed in five innings. He yielded four hits while striking out four and walking one.
RHP Bryse Wilson (2-0, 3.29 ERA) starts for the Brewers on Wednesday night against his former team. LHP Josh Fleming (1-0, 1.74) will be used as an opener by the Pirates and likely be followed by rookie RHP Quinn Priester (0-1, 8.31). First pitch is at 5:40. Elsewhere in the NL Central Tuesday the Reds beat the Phillies 8-1, the Cubs downed the Astros 7-2 and the Diamondbacks pounded the Cardinals 14-1. The Brewers lead the Cubs by a half-game, while the Reds are 1/1/2 games out, the Pirates two and the Cardinals are 5 games behind.
The Packers are gearing up for the NFL Draft Thursday night in Detroit and the Packers have 11 picks, which ties for most picks entering the draft.
Green Bay owns the 25th pick in the first round and it has needs on the offensive line, secondary and linebacker, so expect GM Brian Gutekunst to focus on those positions. However, 11 selections does give him the ability to trade or add talent at other positions, including at wide receiver.
The draft runs through Saturday.
Caitlin Clark is still picking up trophies.
The Iowa basketball star who was recently the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft won the James E. Sullivan Award for the second straight year Tuesday night.
Clark is the first two-time winner in the award’s 94-year history. It goes to the nation’s most outstanding athlete at the college or Olympic level. Her high school coach, Kristin Meyer, accepted the award on her behalf at the New York Athletic Club. Clark gave her acceptance speech via Zoom.
Voting by the public, the AAU Sullivan Award committee, AAU board of directors, sports media and previous winners decided the winner.
The other finalists were Olympic wrestler David Taylor, Olympic speed skater Emery Lehman, gymnast Frederick Richard, Texas volleyball player Madisen Skinner and Paralympic swimmer Noah Jaffe.

Nelly Korda couldn’t have imagined the incredible run she’s put together this season while at home recovering from a blood clot that required surgery in 2022.
“Because obviously then I was just more scared for my health,” she said. “Competing was kind of on the back seat. I was not thinking about competing at all. But I think all of the sad times and the health scares that I have gone through have made me who I am today.”
Fully healthy now, Korda is seemingly unstoppable. The world’s No. 1 player hasn’t lost a tournament since January, and now she’s a two-time major champion.
Korda etched her name in the LPGA Tour record books Sunday, winning her record-tying fifth straight tournament with a 2-stroke victory in the Chevron Championship.
Korda joins Nancy Lopez (1978) and Annika Sorenstam (2004-05) as the only players to win five consecutive LPGA events. Her previous major victory was in 2021 at the Women’s PGA Championship.
Korda shot a 3-under 69 in the final to outlast Maja Stark of Sweden, who birdied her final two holes to shoot 69 and pull within 1. Korda stayed aggressive on the par-5 18th, easily clearing the lake in front of the green and setting up an easy up-and-down birdie.
She had a four-day total of 13-under 275 at Carlton Woods.
Korda took home $1.2 million from a purse of $7.9 million, a significant increase from last year’s purse of $5.2 million. That brings her season earnings to $2,424,216 and her career earnings to $11,361,489.
On Tuesday the Ripon High School track team’s competed at the Winneconne track quadrangular.

Winneconne won the meet with 126 points, followed by Plymouth in second, Berlin in third and then Ripon.
On the girl’s side, the Tigers finished 3rd out of 4 schools with 49 points. They were led by Sophomore Addy Baird who won the 3200 meters. Also recording top finishes were Karsyn Bauman, Victoria Rivers, Amelia Long, Emma Resop and Claire Walker.
