A 20-year-old Oshkosh man charged in connection with shots fired during a recent pub crawl in the city is back in court this week. During his initial hearing in Winnebago County court last Wednesday Lamont Brown was charged with felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of felony bail jumping, marijuana and other drugs possession. He was not specifically charged with the near dozen shots that were fired. Bond was set at $20,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday. Several incidents were investigated during the pub crawl on Saturday, April 13th. According to the criminal complaint a witness told investigators Brown entered his residence trying to get away from the shooting and showed him a handgun. Police responded to about 100 calls for service during the pub crawl.

CHASE SUSPECT THOUGHT IT WAS THE END OF THE WORLD

If you believe what a 23-year-old Middleton man told law enforcement officials after a 28-and-a-half mile vehicle chase it was because he feared it was the end of the world. According to the criminal complaint Gregory Pauly said he wanted to see a family member and fled because Israel just invaded Iran and it was “end of the world” type of stuff. A Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy clocked Pauly’s vehicle speeding over 130 miles an hour on U.S. Highway 151. The chase covered parts of Dodge and Fond du Lac counties. Dodge County prosecutors have charged Pauly with felony fleeing and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Bond was set at $1,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 23rd

CONGRESSMAN GROTHMAN ON ISRAELI MISSILE LAUNCH

Congressman Glenn Grothman doesn’t believe that Israel’s launch of missiles into Iran early Friday morning was meant to escalate war in the region.  He believes it was a retaliatory strike. Three missiles were launched which Grothman feels was in answer to the 300 drones and missiles Iran targeted at Israel the previous weekend. All but a few of those were intercepted. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says Israel can’t afford an all-out war with Iran when 70,000 to 80,000 Israelis in northern Israel can’t go home at night because of missiles being fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon.  It’s been more than six months since Hamas terrorists invaded Israel on October 7th, after which the Israeli military began its bombardment of Gaza.

ST WENCESLAUS STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Ripon City Administrator Adam Sonntag says the city received bids for the St. Wenceslaus Street improvement project last week. They will be reviewed and the Common Council will award bids for the project. He says it will take about three months to complete the project which in addition to street improvement will involve water and sewer, storm sewer improvements, and sidewalk installation. He says they hope to have as few interruptions as possible so the School District can use Ingall’s Field this fall.  He says they will be eliminating parking and going to a two-way. Sonntag says it is not a very safe area when there is a lot of vehicle traffic on it. He commented the street needs the improvements and they did get some funding for the project from a local road improvement program.

AWARENESS WEEKS WRAP UP

Green Lake County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Vande Kolk says each April we recognize those who work on our highways and those who dispatch for police, fire, and ambulance calls. We’re just coming off Work Zone Awareness and Public Safety Telecommunicators Weeks. He says this summer Sheriff’s deputies will be doing enhanced patrolling of areas where there is highway construction or maintenance. Vande Kolk says 911 dispatchers also play a vital role dispatching appropriate personnel to traffic accidents, crimes, fires, and other calls for service. He says for some receiving those services it is the worst day of their lives. Vande Kolk says road construction this summer includes County Highway D between Princeton and State Highway 73, County Highway T south of Princeton, and State Highway 73 from State Highway 23 to State Highway 44.
