OSHKOSH HOME ENTRIES INVESTIGATED
Oshkosh Police are investigating two suspicious incidents involving a suspect entering residences in the city. Just before 7:30 the morning of April 1st a woman reported a man had entered her home in the 800 Block of Vine Avenue. He was standing in the doorway to her bedroom. She yelled at him, and he fled the scene. He was 6 foot 2 with a skinny build and was wearing a slim-fitting black jacket, dark pants, and white mask. The second incident occurred Sunday morning at about 4 am in the 1200 block of Wisconsin Street. A woman awoke to find a man standing over her. She screamed at him, and he fled the residence. He was white, 5 foot 10 to 6 feet tall, had a muscular build, was college-aged with brown chin length hair. He was wearing a long sleeve dark colored T-shirt, dark pants and a black ski mask covering half of his face. JESSE VANG PLEADS NOT GUILTY
The 39-year-old Two Rivers man facing a chronic child neglect charge in the disappearance of 3-year-old Elijah Vue was arraigned in Manitowoc County court Tuesday. Jesse Vang pled not guilty. A judge had already ruled there’s enough evidence for Vang to stand trial. Elijah’s mother, 31-year-old Katrina Baur of Wisconsin Dells, had sent the toddler to stay with Vang who admitted he disciplined the child. Baur is also charged with neglect and other crimes. No one has been charged in Elijah’s disappearance which Vang reported on February 20th, nearly two months ago. Baur will be back in court on April 26th.
FORMER WAUPUN INMATE BOUND OVER FOR TRIAL ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES
A former Waupun Correctional inmate facing attempted first-degree intentional homicide and aggravated battery charges has been bound over for trial. William Lasalle recently waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He will be arraigned on May 14th. According to the criminal complaint on January 24th prison staff was sent to a cell the 49-year-old Lasalle was in for a reported stabbing. They found the victim lying on his back in the top bunk bed with blood on and around him. The victim had multiple puncture wounds to his right arm, chest, and left foot. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for life-threatening injuries. He suffered five puncture wounds and three lacerations. Lasalle refused to speak to investigators. Lasalle is currently being held at the Dodge County Jail.
ZOO WAS NOT PLACED IN LOCK DOWN
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday clarified that the Shalom Wildlife Zoo in West Bend was not placed in lock-down while they looked for a suicidal 37-year-old Fox Valley man who wanted to say goodbye to his family. Several media outlets picking up on a story in the Washington County Daily News reported that the zoo had been locked down when in fact the Sheriff’s Office posted deputies at the entrance and had them check routes from the Fox Valley. The man had allegedly taken numerous medications and suffered a self-inflicted stab wound to his abdomen. He was driving to the zoo to see his family which was visiting it. Deputies took the man into custody on State Highway 28 about seven miles from the zoo during a traffic stop. He was treated at Froedtert Hospital in the Town of Polk for the stab wound and possible drug ingestion. He was also expected to undergo a mental health evaluation.
RIPON MAN FACING CHARGES FOR MARIJUANA POSSESSION AND BAIL JUMPING
A 32-year-old Ripon man has been charged with two felony counts of bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. Bond was set at $500 cash during Robert Bonnell’s initial hearing Tuesday in Fond du Lac County court. Charges stem from a traffic stop in Ripon last Friday morning. According to the criminal complaint Bonnell was a passenger in the vehicle and allegedly had marijuana on him and had tried to eat it when the vehicle was pulled over for an equipment violation. Bonnell has two other open cases in Fond du Lac County court on marijuana and designer drug possession charges. He was released on signature bonds in those two cases. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in all three cases for May 10th.
RAMP CLOSURE RESCHEDULED
The State’s Department of Transportation has rescheduled a ramp closure for rehabilitation work on Interstate 41 between Breezewood Lane in Neenah and State Highway 96 in Appleton. Work will include improving expansion joints. Starting at 6 am next Monday the westbound US Highway 10 to northbound I-41 ramp will be closed until Monday, May 13th. During the closure drivers should take westbound US Highway 10 to County Highway CB to eastbound US High 10 to I-41.
REORGANIZATIONAL MEETINGS HELD
Common Councils and County Board across the area held reorganizational meetings yesterday. New and reelected officer holders were sworn into office. Dodge, Green Lake, Waupaca, and Waushara county boards held morning meetings. The Waupaca County Board will continue their reorganizational meeting today. During Dodge County’s meeting Dave Frohling was reelected county board chairperson. The Fond du Lac County Board held their reorganizational meeting last night. Supervisor Steve Abel was reelected to another two year term as county board chairman. At last night’s Ripon Common Council meeting Ellen Sorensen was elected Council President. The Berlin Common Council also held a reorganizational meeting. Luke Dretske was elected Council President.

GREEN LAKE COUNTY DA GERISE LASPISA SEEKS ANOTHER TERM
Green Lake County District Attorney Gerise LaSpisa is seeking a four-year term as DA during the November 5th election. She was appointed to the office in 2021 to serve out the remainder of former District Attorney Andrew Christenson’s term after he was elected as a Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge. LaSpisa began her career as a State’s Attorney in Cook County Illinois in 1994. At the end of 1999 she was hired as an Assistant District Attorney for Milwaukee County. In 2005 she left to focus on raising her children. She returned to the law in 2017 as an Assistant District Attorney in Dane County. In the fall of 2018 she was hired as the Assistant District Attorney for Green Lake County and served in that role until she was appointed DA in 2021.She says,” I am proud to call Green Lake County my home and grateful to serve my fellow citizens by holding criminals accountable, helping victims and witnesses through the criminal justice process and making Green Lake County a safer place to live, work, and play.”
APPLICATIONS BEING TAKEN FOR CONSERVATION WARDEN TRAINING
Wisconsin’s DNR is accepting applications through May 7th for its 2025 class of conservation wardens. Approximately 10 full-time wardens will be hired for the upcoming class who will begin training in January or April of next year, depending on the applicant’s prior law enforcement experience. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and already have earned or plan to earn 60 college credits within their first five years of being hired. The DNR will have a virtual info session next Tuesday from 6 to 7 pm to discuss the hiring process, training program and more. Online pre-registration is required. Conservation wardens around the state will also hold open office hours sessions for prospective applicants to discuss the career and ask questions. HEBEL RECEIVING DONALD G JONES LEADERSHIP ALUMNI AWARD
Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac CEO Dan Hebel has been named the recipient of this year’s Donald G. Jones Leadership Alumni Award. The award was created in 2001 and honors the former area businessman who played a major role in founding and supporting Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Leadership Fond du Lac County program. It recognizes a past graduate of the Leadership Fond du Lac County program for the effort they have put forth in helping improve their community through volunteer service and utilization of their leadership abilities. Hebel will receive the award during the Leadership Fond du Lac County Completion Ceremony on Wednesday, May 15th at Whispering Springs Golf Club in Fond du Lac. Hebel was born and raised in Fond du Lac. He lives in the area with his wife, and their two children, Jake and Quinn. Over the past 19 years Hebel has held several roles and titles with the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac, ultimately being named CEO in 2013. Additionally, he has volunteered as a board member for several organizations and served on the Fond du Lac Police and Fire Commission and Board of Appeals. Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein nominated Hebel for the Leadership Award.
