Sparks from a passing train started two grass fires in Fond du Lac Saturday afternoon within about 100 yards of each other. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Joe Maramonte says the first fire was around Highway 151 and the South Hickory Street on-ramp and the second on the north side of Highway 151 along Kohlmann Road. Both fires were extinguished with handlines from the fire engines as well as a brush fire ATV. The fires were brought under control and extinguished within a half-an-hour. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department assisted with scene management and traffic control. The time of the fire call was 1:22 pm.
