The finale of the Cincinnati Reds series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon was postponed because of heavy rain in Cincinnati. The game will be made up as the first game of a split doubleheader on Aug. 30th
Milwaukee has a weekend series in Baltimore. The Brewers send Freddy Peralta (1-0, 3:09 ERA to the mound against Orioles’ right-hander Tyler Wells (0-1, 4.76 ERA. First pitch is at 6:05.
In the NL Central Thursday the Phillies beat the Pirates 5-1. Milwaukee is tied with the Pirates for first place in the division while the Cubs are 1 ½ games back, the Reds 2 ½ and the Cardinals are 3 games behind.
In the Midwest League Thursday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers game at South Bend was postponed and will be made up today.
The Milwaukee Bucks return to action tonight on the road against the Oklahoma Thunder. With two games remaining in the regular season Bucks (49-31) are clinging to a one-game lead over the Knicks and a two-game lead over the Cavaliers for second place in the Eastern Conference behind the first place Boston Celtics. Milwaukee will be playing without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who’s out for the remainder of the regular season.
Bryson DeChambeau carded a 7-under 65 on Thursday to grab a 3-stroke lead when his weather-delayed opening round ended. Playing most of his round in swirling winds, DeChambeau had birdies on each of the first three holes and added five more on the second nine. World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was 1 stroke back after carding a 6-under 66. Play was suspended around 8 p.m. ET because of darkness with 27 golfers still on the course, including five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods, who was 1 under after 13 holes. The first round will resume Friday at 7:50 a.m. ET (ESPN). The second round will begin at 7 a.m. CDT.
Nicolai Heiggard of Denmark, who is 5 under after 15 holes, and Max Homa, who is 4 under through 13, also are among the players yet to finish the first round.
England’s Danny Willett, the 2016 Masters champion, finished his round and was 3 back after carding a 4-under 68. New Zealand’s Ryan Fox posted a 3-under 69.
The Green Bay Packers have signed CB Gemon Green. The transaction was announced Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
(juh-MON) Green (6-1, 183), a first-year player, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants out of the University of Michigan on May 5, 2023, but was released after training camp and after a brief stop on the Giants’ practice squad. In college, he played in 42 games with 24 starts, recording 71 tackles (49 solo), an interception and 15 passes defensed. In 2022, he earned All-Big Ten honorable mention from the coaches and media. Green will wear No. 41 for the Packers.
Aaron Rodgers acknowledged during a podcast appearance this week he briefly thought his playing career could be over after he tore his left Achilles tendon in the New York Jets’ season opener.
“I was really thinking, ‘This is it. You don’t come back from this injury,’” the 40-year-old quarterback said during a wide-ranging 2 1/2-hour interview on the “I Can Fly” podcast, which was published Tuesday.
Rodgers, traded to the Jets last offseason after 18 years with the Green Bay Packers, was injured just four snaps into his debut with New York on Sept. 11.
Rodgers said he quickly began researching Kobe Bryant’s surgery to repair a similar injury during his playing days with the Los Angeles Lakers and “the doomsday of, like, my career is over kind of started to go away.”
The four-time NFL MVP fought back tears while talking about his message to some of his closest friends about his recovery and rehabilitation before he flew home to California on Sept. 12th .
Rodgers had surgery the next day and went through an extensive rehabilitation process that he said was helped by prayer, diet and support from friends. He insisted his goal was to return before the end of the regular season, if the Jets remained in playoff contention – while pulling off the fastest known recovery from a torn Achilles. He was cleared by doctors for some football activities in late November and said he felt good, but aborted the comeback attempt a month later with the Jets out of the postseason hunt and him not 100% recovered from the injury.
Coach Robert Saleh said last month at the NFL meetings in Orlando, Florida, that Rodgers is on track to practice when the Jets begin voluntary organized team activities next month.

Green Bay Packers Equipment Manager Gordon “Red” Batty is retiring from the position. The announcement was made Thursday by Executive Vice President/Director of Football Operations Russ Ball.
“On behalf of the Packers, I want to thank Red for all of his hard work and dedication to the organization,” said Ball. “With his vast knowledge in his field and immense pride in his work, he kept the players and staff well taken care of both on and off the field. We wish him and his family the very best in the future.”
Batty has worked in the NFL for 43 seasons, including the last 30 seasons as the equipment manager for the Packers. Prior to his move to Green Bay, Batty spent 13 seasons (1981-93) in the same position for the then-Houston Oilers. Last year, he completed his 50th season in the equipment field, a career he began in 1974 at age 14 as an equipment assistant for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Six years later, Batty was elevated to the position of equipment manager for the Alouettes, a team that won two Grey Cups (1974 and ’77) during his tenure in Montreal.
In his 30 seasons with the Packers, Green Bay has made the playoffs 22 times and won 15 division crowns, three NFC titles and two Super Bowls (XXXI and XLV). Batty purports to be the first native-born Canadian staff member to garner both a Grey Cup and Super Bowl ring, and he has two of each. Over his career, Batty has worked with quarterbacks Ken Stabler, Archie Manning, Oliver Luck, Warren Moon, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love.
During his time in the NFL, the Montreal native has worked 683 regular season games, 53 postseason contests, six Pro Bowls and has been the equipment coordinator for what is now known as the NFL Players Association Rookie Premiere preseason event for 30 years. A devout hockey fan, Batty has also worked several NHL Winter Classic and Stadium Series outdoor games.
