Fire crews were able to contain a marsh fire in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Cemetery Road in Fond du Lac County’s Town of Friendship last evening. A Sheriff’s deputy saw heavy smoke and as he approached the area observed a large section of marsh lands west of N9414 Lakeshore Drive on fire. Six fire departments responded stopping the blaze from spreading to nearby tree lines. Investigators learned the property owners at N9414 Lakeshore Drive were conducting a controlled burn that accidentally spread to the marsh. Approximately 30 acres of marsh lands were consumed by the fire. No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged. The Sheriff’s deputy reported the fire at 6:13 pm.
