9 March 2024 News
From Marie Witzel Dodge County Positive Youth Development Educator:
Juneau – Dodgeland School was the location of the February 4-H Family Learning Day, the day was met with much enthusiasm by the participants.
Youth had the opportunity to select from a variety of one-hour sessions in which they could learn about their 4-H projects, learn fun crafts, try new foods, and experience new games. Popular sessions were Cake Decorating, Fun Snacks, Livestock sessions, Bovine Reproductive System, Geology ad Earth Science up close, dairy trivia, crochet, trapping, and leathercraft. New for this year was a pop-up shop where you could purchase 4-H items like t-shirts, and backpacks.
Among the numerous sessions, the largest attended was Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA). In this session youth learned about quality care of animals. They also learn about relating this information to the public to create positive public opinions about agriculture. This is a required session for livestock project members to attend to be in either the Meat Animal Sale, the Dairy Youth Auction, or the Small Animal Auction at the Dodge County Fair. It is also required to attend the State Fair with their project animals.
The Dodge County 4-H will be hosting another Family Learning Day on March 23, 2024. Registrations for this event are due by March 8. This event is open to the public and more information can be found on the Dodge County 4-H website: http://dodge.extension.wisc.edu/.
