3/3/24 Town Square Lobby Artist Gives Back

3 March 2024 News

GREEN LAKE, WI, — This March, Town Square Community Center’s Lobby Art Gallery will showcase an exhibition of barn quilts and wood sculptures that have been generously donated by a local artist.  The gallery is open from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, and 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays at 492 Hill St, Green Lake, WI.

“I started painting smaller ‘porch hangers’ or ‘shed quilts’ as a hobby after I saw some examples online,” said the artist who would like to remain anonymous.” I started out using scrap pieces of wood that I cut into geometric shapes which I painted and then glued to a regular plywood backing.”

Over time, the artist has perfected their practice utilizing professional sign making material that is lightweight and requires less prep work.  The pieces that will be on display can also be found online at greenlaketownsquare.org/lobby-artist.

“Barn quilts have a rich history in Wisconsin and we are excited to have some on display,” Kris Anderson, Executive Director commented. ”We are so grateful for the generosity of this talented artist.”

In a gesture of community support and philanthropy, all proceeds from the sales of the artwork will benefit Town Square, reinforcing its mission to provide cultural, social, recreational, and educational opportunities to the people of Green Lake.
