According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the Packers are re-signing defensive back Robert Rochell.
Rochell was signed off Carolina’s practice squad back in late October and went on to mostly contribute on special teams. The four year veteran finished 2024 with four combined tackles in 112 special teams snaps.
Green Bay did not tender Rochell as a restricted free agent following the season.
The New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with Edge Chase Young to a one-year contract.
Young’s contract is fully guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The former No. 2 overall pick split time with the Commanders and 49ers last season and finished the year with 25 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 7 TFLs. The 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year has dealt with a torn ACL and questions about his efforts on and off the field in recent years, but now has a chance to begin anew in New Orleans. Pairing with veteran Cameron Jordan, Young will look to bolster a Saints pass rush that ranked 29th in total sacks (34) last season.
Leighton Vander Esch has retired from the NFL after six seasons.
Due to medical concerns over a neck injury, Vander Esch, who was a Pro Bowler and Second-team All-Pro in 2018, has opted to call it a career. The former first-round pick, who turned 28 in February, was limited to only five games in 2023 due to his neck injury and has battled neck injuries dating back to his days at Boise State. Vander Esch totaled 469 tackles, 13 TFLs, and 3.5 sacks for his career and had signed a two-year deal with the Cowboys last offseason after playing in 14 games.
