According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Milwaukee Brewers will be without their star closer for around three months

Devin Williams, who played through back soreness during September of last season, now has two stress fractures in his back and will be shut down for the next six weeks. After that he will need to rehab for another six.

Williams went 8-3 with 36 saves in 58 innings pitched last season and gave up 2 runs in his lone appearance of last season’s playoffs, the first game of a Wild Card series that the Brewers would lose to the Diamondbacks.

The Brewers now have to decide who will close their games. They’ve got veteran options like Jakob Junis, Trevor Megill, and Joe Ross currently on their Spring Training depth chart, as well as younger pitchers like D.L. Hall and Abner Uribe who could compete for the spot. There are also some veteran names like Brad Boxberger, Brad Hand, Alex Reyes, and Jarlin Garcia still available in free agency.

Packers’ safety Jonathon Owens has signed with a new team.

Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network is reporting the Chicago Bears have agreed to a two-year deal with Jonathan Owens.

Owens had 84 tackles in his one season with the Packers after spending the first four years of his career with the Texans.

Owens is married to Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. Biles has been a supportive football spouse by sporting Green Bay gear during her husband’s games.

Packers fans welcomed Biles with open arms, with one fan gifting her a special hat that celebrated her “GOAT” status. She wished Green Bay well on Tuesday, following news of her husband’s deal.

The Packers are bringing back two role players for next season.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced on Tuesday that cornerback Corey Ballentine and tight end Tyler Davis have been resigned.

Ballentine has played two seasons in Green Bay after being drafted in the 6th round in 2019 out of Washburn University and playing with the Giants, Jets, Lions, Falcons, and Cardinals. In 2023, he recorded career highs in multiple categories and snagged his first career interception.

Tyler Davis has been with the Packers since 2021 after signing off of the Colts practice squad. He was drafted by the Jaguars in the 6th round in 2020 out of Georgia Tech University. Davis missed last season with a knee injury but appeared in 32 games from 2021 to 2022. He’s registered 8 receptions for 61 yards and made 15 tackles on special teams in his three seasons.

The Packers All-Pro kick returner is staying in Green Bay.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers are signing kick returner and cornerback Keisean Nixon to a 3-year deal worth $18 million.

Nixon has been in Green Bay since 2022 and has made a name for himself as one of the NFL’s best kick returners. In his two seasons with the Packers, he has returned 65 kicks for nearly 2,000 yards and 1 touchdown. He was named to the Associated Press All-Pro team in both of those seasons, with his top highlights being a 105-yard touchdown return against the Vikings in 2022 and a 73-yard return against the 49ers in the 2023 playoffs. On the defensive side of the ball, he was the Packers’ starting slot corner last season. He got 1 interception in 2023 which came on a Sunday Night Football win over the Chiefs.

Nixon started his career in 2019 with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina, starting only two games in three seasons.
