PRO UNION ACT REFERENCED IN SOTU
Congressman Glenn Grothman says he is surprised that President Joe Biden made reference to the Pro Act during his State of the Union Address last week. Grothman says the bill is an effort to push for more unionization in America. He says it is very dangerous. It would allow employees in any business to ask for a vote to unionize. They would only have to give the business two weeks’ notice that a vote is going to be held to unionize. The business would have to comply by turning over the email address, home address, and phone numbers of all its employees. The vote could be held out in the open where people can watch how you vote. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says the bill has passed two previous sessions of Congress, but not during the current session. He says if the GOP loses the House and the Presidency during the fall election the bill could become law.
RIPON RECEIVES TREE PLANTING GRANT
Ripon residents may have seen a number of trees removed from city parks over the last month. Ripon Parks and Recreation Director Ashton Zeien says those trees were dead or in the case of Ash trees infected by the Emerald Ash Borer. But the city plans to replace the trees. Zeien says recently the city received a nearly $5,000 grant ($4,989) from the Alliant Energy One Million Trees Community Tree Planting Program. The grant will fund the purchase of 33 balled and bur lapped trees in the parks. Zeien says there will be about seven different kinds of trees planted. The Alliant Energy Tree Planting Program is nationally recognized and award winning. It is designed to encourage energy efficiency, environmental awareness, and community stewardship.

TAX REFUND SCAM
The Administrator for the State’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection warns taxpayers not to fall for a tax refund scam. Michelle Reinen says someone claiming to be with the IRS will contact you via email or text message regarding your “tax refund” or “tax refund e-statement.” They will ask you to fill out an official-looking form before you receive your refund. They are looking for personal information. She notes the real IRS won’t contact you by email, text message, or social media to get your personal or financial information. If someone does reach out to you this way, never click on any links. Check the status of any pending refund on the IRS official website by visiting Where’s My Refund.
