CONGRESSMAN GROTHMAN IMPRESSIONS OF SOTU SPEECH

Congressman Glenn Grothman says he’s surprised President Joe Biden didn’t say more in his State of the Union speech about the southern border crisis. Grothman says the president talked about support for a border bill that doesn’t really do anything about the problem. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says the bill the President mentioned would provide more money to big cities to handle the mass migration of illegal immigrants, but doesn’t really do anything about tightening security at the border. The President also talked about the low unemployment rate and curbing inflation, but Congressman Grothman says interest rates and prices are too high when the middle class can’t afford housing.

DNR STAMP DESIGN CONTEST

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is accepting artwork entries for the Wild Turkey, Pheasant and Waterfowl Stamp design contests. The winning designs will appear on the 2025 collection of stamps. Each year, local artists from around Wisconsin compete for an opportunity to have their artwork commemorated in a historic way on the wild turkey, pheasant and waterfowl stamps. Sales of these three stamps bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for species management throughout the state, including habitat management, restoration, education and research projects. Hunters are required to purchase stamps to harvest these game birds. Stamp design entries must be received or postmarked by August 1st. Judging will take place on August 24th at the Waterfowl Hunters Expo in Oshkosh. Rules, entry information and reproduction agreements are available on the DNR’s Wildlife Stamp Funding and Stamp Design Contest webpage. (DNR photo).
