The Packers are set to hire Aaron Hill as their new strength and conditioning coach, according to Matt Schneidman of the Athletic.

Hill spent the last five seasons with the 49ers as their assistant strength and conditioning under head strength and conditioning coach Dustin Perry.

Having a new voice with the strength and conditioning program is key right now with the offseason workout program set to start sometime in early April. The NFL has not released the exact dates for the Packers offseason program to begin.

Hill will also have a big impact on the conditioning of the team during the regular season, working with rehabbing players, and helping prevent certain injuries. Like nagging hamstring issues that hampered the likes of wide receiver Christian Watson and cornerback Eric Stokes last season, for example.

Hill replaces Chris Gizzi, a former Packers player who went on to spend ten seasons with Green Bay either as an assistant or head strength and conditioning coach.

The Badgers host Maryland tonight.  Wisconsin has fallen out of the AP Top 25 after losing five of six conference games, including an overtime loss to Iowa last Saturday, 88-86. The Badgers are 17-9 overall and 9-6 in the Big Ten while Maryland comes in at 14-12 overall and 6-9 in the conference.  Tipoff is at 8:00.

In women’s college basketball tonight Minnesota hosts Wisconsin tonight. The Gopher’s are 15-10 overall and 5-9 in the Big Ten. The visiting Badgers are 12-12 overall and also 5-9 in league play. Wisconsin won the season’s earlier matchup with Minnesota in Madison 59-56. Tipoff is at 6:00 from Williams Arena.

Woody is back with the only MLB team he has played for in his 7 year career. Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network reporting Monday morning that the right handed pitcher has reached agreement on a 2-year deal with the Brewers. The Brewers released Woodruff in November, deciding not to offer him salary arbitration as he will need most if not all of the 2024 season to rehab from shoulder surgery. Woodruff made just 11 starts in 2023 due to shoulder problems. He went 5-1 with a 2.28 ERA, racking up 74 strikeouts in 67 innings. The 31-year old underwent surgery in October to fix an anterior capsule tear in his right shoulder.

An 11th round draft pick in 2014, Woodruff has made 130 appearance, including 115 starts, in 7 seasons, and his 3.10 ERA is the best in franchise history for a pitcher who has thrown at least 500 innings.

William Byron snapped Hendrick Motorsports’ nine-race Daytona 500 losing streak with a win Monday in the rain-delayed “Great American Race.” He crossed under the white flag denoting the final lap at the exact moment a crash broke out behind him. The caution flag was thrown and he wasn’t quite sure if he was the official winner as he circled Daytona one final time.  But, he was.

The last Hendrick driver to win the Daytona 500 was Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2014. The 26-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, is the sixth different driver to win the 500 for Rick Hendrick, the winningest team owner in NASCAR history who made his way to victory lane on the actual 40th anniversary of his first Cup win.

The ninth Daytona 500 win for Hendrick Motorsports tied the team with Petty Enterprises for most in NASCAR history.

The fourth and final caution of the race began when Hendrick driver Alex Bowman hit Byron from behind and it caused Byron to sideswipe Brad Keselowski and trigger a 23-car crash that caused a red flag that lasted more than 15 minutes.

There were four laps remaining on the final restart and Byron was in second in the No. 24 Chevrolet. He and Ross Chastain of Trackhouse Racing pushed back and forth for the lead and it was Byron out front as a crash broke out behind him just as he’d crossed under the white flag marking the final lap of the race.

Byron was followed by teammate Bowman in a 1-2 sweep for Chevrolet and Hendrick. Christopher Bell in a Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing finished third and was followed by Chevys from Corey Lajoie of Spire Motorsports and AJ Allmendinger of Kaulig Racing. Bubba Wallace was sixth in a Toyota for 23XI Racing and was followed by John Hunter Nemecheck in another Toyota but for Legacy Motor Club. Chase Briscoe was eighth in a Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing and followed by Legacy driver Erik Jones and SHR teammate Noah Gragson.
