MAN IN CUSTODY IN WAUPUN DEATH INVESTIGATION

An autopsy conducted last Friday revealed more about the death of 74-year-old Paul Abresch Sr. of Waupun. Waupun Police and EMS responded to the 100 block of West Brown Street last Thursday morning for a report of a man dead inside the residence. They found Abresch deceased. An autopsy found numerous injuries to his torso, head, and facial area. Final autopsy results including toxicology and the cause of death are pending.  On Thursday a 42-year-old man present at the residence was taken into custody on an unrelated charge of felony bail jumping. He is being held in the Dodge County Jail. Waupun Police are requesting additional felony charges of false imprisonment, and witness intimidation against him. They say the additional charges are related to the incident.

SHOOTING INCIDENT IN GREEN LAKE COUNTY

Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a shooting that occurred on Kahl Road in the Town of Green Lake late last Friday night. The County’s Communication Center got a 911 call just before 11:30 pm stating that a 20-year-old man was a gunshot victim. The call was placed by a 21-year-old man. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and assisted Southern Green Lake County EMS and Berlin EMS with life saving measures. The victim was transported to the hospital. The incident remains under investigation.

BURGLARIES REPORTED IN GREEN LAKE COUNTY

Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials say they received reports over the weekend of burglaries in the area of State Highway 23 in the Town of Brooklynn. On two occasions the residences were unoccupied and entered by the suspect. There was attempted entry at two other residences as well. MIDDLETON MAN ARRESTED FOR TRAFFIC CHASE IN COLUMBIA COUNTY

Columbia County Sheriff’s officials say one of their deputy’s wasn’t hurt after being struck by an open car door while the driver was trying to get away from a traffic stop. The deputy was out with a running vehicle in a rest area on I-90/94. The deputy used his K9 partner for an open air sniff and the dog indicated there may be drugs in the vehicle. The driver side door was open while the deputy was speaking with the driver, 45-year-ld Daniel Wagabaza of Middleton. The deputy asked him to exit the vehicle and Wagabaza became agitated and put the vehicle in reverse. It sped backwards with the open door striking the deputy. A high-speed pursuit ensued. Wagabaza was driving erratically and discarding items from his window. He eventually took an exit and entered a Loves Truck Stop parking lot where he was taken into custody. He was taken to the Columbia County Jail. Among the charges he’s facing include felony fleeing resisting an officer, second degree recklessly endangering safety, bail jumping, and drug paraphernalia possession.

UNITED YOUTH GRANTS AVAILABLE

The Fond du Lac County United Way is taking applications for its United Youth grant program. The United Youth Advisory Board administers the grants to non-profits that have programs that benefit youth in the community. The program is a partnership of the United Way, Fond du Lac Area Foundation, and Exchange Club of Fond du Lac. They provide the pool of $9,000 that the grants come out of. United Way Executive Director Amber Kilawee says grants awards range from $500 to $2,000 with the average being around $1,500. The United Youth Advisory Board is made up of high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Kilawee says they hope the board members will see the importance of the services that are provided through the grant applications. She says they would like to get a few students from the Ripon Area to serve on the Advisory Board. Anyone interested in learning more should call 920-921-7010.

BERLIN KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AND MOLLIE B

The Berlin Knights of Columbus Council #1547 will be bringing Mollie B & Friends to the Berlin High School on Sunday May 5th. Tom Pionke of the Knights says the doors will open at 11:30 that morning and the performance is from 1 to 4 pm. Tickets are $22 with those 12 and under admitted free with an adult who purchased a ticket. It is the Council’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Pionke says it is a little different this year because Mollie’s husband Ted Lange has taken a break from music, that’s why it is Mollie B & Friends. They play polka and country music. Tickets are available at Mollie’s website or by calling 920-290-2394. Food will be available; there will also be pull tabs and raffles. Pionke says all the money raised from the event goes toward the Knights’ charitable efforts in the community.

AGRICULTURAL SHOWCASE

Planning is still underway for the 20th Annual Fond du Lac Area Agriculture Showcase on Saturday, March 2nd. It will be from 9 am to 2 pm at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Expo Building. The cost is $5 for adults with those 10 and under getting in free. The event is hosted by the Envision Greater Fond du Lac Agri-business Council. Amy Ries is the Director of Agricultural Programs for Envision. She says it is a big year for the event since it is their twentieth anniversary. She says the $5 you pay to get in will allow you to sample beer, wine, cheese and sausage, and enjoy the many educational activities that day. She says their educational area will have a petting zoo, face painting, coloring for the kids and more. She also notes they usually have some presentations as well.
