Ripon, WI- Ripon Public Library is excited to announce its February lineup of events and offerings for all ages! Thanks to the Friends of the Library and other generous donors, programming is always free.

Ripon Public Library celebrates National Mystery Month with “Cozies and Cookies!”

Cozy mysteries – lighthearted with little to no violence – are featured throughout the month of February with special events, prizes, cookies, and books! The month-long celebration is financially sponsored by Ripon Noon Kiwanis, in honor of their 100th year of service to the community!  

Throughout February, drop in to browse a delightful book display of the cozy mystery genre near the fireplace. Displayed books may be checked out or enjoyed at the library. Don’t miss these special “Cozzy” events:

SAT FEB 3 | 10 AM—NOON | KICKOFF CELEBRATION! | TEENS & ADULTS

Join us on Saturday, February 3, 10 AM- 12 PM for the kickoff celebration! Browse this diverse genre while enjoying cookies, warm beverages, and guest speakers. Enter to win book prizes and claim a free mug while supplies last!

At 10:30 AM, guest speakers, aka local mystery buffs, offer excerpts, light literary analysis, favorite quips from their own favorites, and welcome discussion from attendees. Here’s a sneak peek at speakers and their focus.

  • Doug Northrop delves into Paige Shelton’s delightful Scottish Bookshop mystery series and the Edgar Award winning series, by David Handler, featuring the witty and dapper celebrity ghostwriter, Stewart Hoag.
  • Robin Woods discusses the famously exciting Sherlock Holmes mystery by Sir Conan Doyle, Hound of the Baskervilles, and brings in a bit of Agatha Christie’s renowned body of work, too.
  • Jeanne Williams delights with the highly entertaining and historically representative Jane Austen Mysteries series by Stephanie Barron.

WED FEB 7 & FEB 28 through MAR 27 | 10 AM | STORYTIME FOR KIDS & FAMILIES | NO REGISTRATION

Welcome to active learning & fun, where early literacy & STEM concepts come to life through stories, music, movement, and enrichment activities. It’s a happy place for kids and caregivers to learn and play. After Storytime, Stay-and-Play in the Romper Room! This active space allows kids to release excess energy and advance their physical skills all while supporting social connections for kids and their adults. On Wednesdays when there is no story time, February 14 and 21, keep your weekly library habit with DIY Books + Romper Room! Come on in for a stack of books and enjoy social time in the Romper Room.

SUN FEB 11 | 1-4 PM | D&D GAME TIME | AGES 11+

Always wanted to delve into the iconic D&D role-playing game but found it daunting? Local Dungeon Masters guide players through one-shot adventures. Featuring Starfinder a space-based role-playing game of action and adventure. Introducing The Creature Comes for Us card game! Play as a group of people preparing to fight against a currently unknown threat. Beginners welcome.  No registration necessary.

MON FEB 12 | 2 PM | MONDAY MOVIE MATINEE

Enjoy a newly released movie on the big screen with complimentary popcorn! Visit the library website for title and rating information.

MON FEB 12 | 6:00-7:30 PM | ALL NATURAL SERIES | BOTANICA NATURALS: The Benefits of Natural Skincare

New All Natural Series: featuring local business owner, Denise Lynn!  Denise will give a presentation on using natural products followed by a brief demonstration and question and answer session.  All are welcome!

THU FEB 15 | 6-7:30 PM | CRAFT CLUB: DIY BATH SALTS & SHOWER STEAMERS | AGES 10+

Drop in and make your own scented bath salts or shower steamers. For ages 10+ up, Youth need adult supervision.  No registration required.

SAT FEB 17 | 10 AM—NOON | TEEN PROGRAM | PEG BOARD LITE BRITE |

Teens are invited to help paint golf tees and a peg board to create a pseudo–Lite Brite station in the teen space.

WED FEB 21 | 6-8 PM | ADULT GAME NIGHT | AGES 16+

Join us on the 3rd Wednesday of every month for an evening of modern board games. We teach, you play! Check our website/Facebook for featured game(s). Recurring event, 3rd Wednesday of each month.

MON FEB 26 | 2 PM | CLASSIC MOVIE MONDAY

Join us to relive the glory days of the black and white movies! Popcorn included! Visit the library website for title and rating information.

MON FEB 26 | 6:30-7:30 PM | ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION: The Invisible Husband of Frick Island by Colleen Oakley

Enjoy a lively and friendly discussion with other readers. 

DROP-IN BOREDOM BUSTERS

  • Come play in the Romper Room. Physical activity and human connections are important for healthy, happy human beings, and the Romper Room facilitates both! Focusing on active play, the room features trikes, foot-to-floor vehicles, a balance bike, tunnels, tumbling mats, balance beams, and more. The Romper Room, which is open during regular library hours, is most engaging for ages 2-6 years, though younger/older kids are welcome.
  • Enjoy the always-available board games, toy library, and activity sheets located in the youth department.
  • Visit the community table where there is always a puzzle in progress! Stay for a bit and place a few pieces or settle in for a longer session.
