The 19-year-old West Bend man facing a hit-and-run causing great bodily harm charge in the wake of a deadly rollover accident in Fond du Lac County made his second court appearance yesterday. Jatziel Encarnacion now faces formal charges. Encarnacion allegedly hit and dragged the body of 19-year-old Taya Grimes of Hartford three miles from the scene of the original accident. The charge he faces is related to a second person he struck at that scene who is still hospitalized. Grimes was driving a vehicle that rolled over ejecting herself and three others. Investigators suspect she was dead before Encarnacion’s vehicle hit and dragged her. She and others were coming from an underage drinking party. Witnesses allegedly saw Encarnacion drinking at that same party. According to the criminal complaint he admitted to investigators he was traveling on Highway 45 and went through the crash site. He suspected he hit an object in the roadway. Although not specifically talking about the case, District Attorney Eric Toney says given the circumstances it would be difficult to prove such a case beyond a reasonable doubt. Encarnacion remains in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
