1/13/24 Blizzard Keeps Sheriff’s Departments Busy

Despite Winter Weather and Blizzard Warnings and appeals from law enforcement officials some drivers braved the weather and hit the road Friday. The result Sheriff’s Departments in the area had non-stop calls for assistance Friday until about 6 am this morning. Through a portion of the day Friday the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office handled over 30 weather related calls for assistance. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies handled nearly 60 cars in the ditch, 14 accidents, a hit-and-run, powerline down, a wrong-way driver complaint, and at least 10 disabled vehicles where the occupants stayed inside the vehicle. Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies were also busy Friday with 65 vehicle runoffs. 5 or more accidents, just under 20 motorist assists calls, and a fire. The cities of Oshkosh and Waupun, and the Village of Lomira issued snow emergency declarations. Because of the volume of vehicles that went off area roads some counties issued tow bans.
