12/5/23 Solicitation of Homicide Charges Dropped Against Two Berlin Men

5 December 2023 News

Charges of solicitation of homicide were dropped Monday in Green Lake County court against a Berlin man and his son suspected of trying to hire a hit man in March of last year to kill another family member. Sixty-three-year-old Joseph Hoppa (pictured above) and 39-year-old Jason Hoppa (pictured below) were alleged to have tried to hire a man for $40,000 to kill a family member because they were unhappy about how an estate was divided. Joseph Hoppa allegedly offered to pay the man $20,000 up front and another $20,000 after one of his sons was killed. According to the criminal complaint in subsequent conversations with the would-be-hitman, Jason Hoppa also expressed a desire to have his brother killed. Six counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm remain in place against Joseph Hoppa. He entered not guilty pleas to the charges yesterday and a status conference in the case is set for January 23rd. (Green Lake County Sheriff’s photo).
