All seven occupants of a home at W698 Airport Road located in Fond du Lac County’s Town of Osceola safely escaped from a house fire at the residence early this morning. One person suffering breathing difficulties was evaluated at the scene but was not taken to a hospital. A 911 call reported the fire at 12:38 am. The caller said thick smoke was coming from the chimney and basement. When deputies arrived, smoke filled the residence. Flames were spreading through the first floor near the wood-burning chimney. The blaze spread from the basement ceiling through to the first floor. Portions of the floor and chimney were destroyed before the fire was contained, but fire damage was limited to the area around the fireplace. The entire structure sustained smoke damage. The preliminary investigation showed that the fire started in a portion of the chimney just before the first floor. The fire is not considered suspicious. Vista Christian Retreat Incorporated owns the property.
