Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a franchise-record 64 points to help the Milwaukee Bucks outscore the Indiana Pacers 140-126 on Wednesday night.   After the game  Antetokounmpo exchanged heated words with members of the Indiana staff and raced toward the Pacers locker room Wednesday night as both teams squared off in a hallway in a dispute over the game ball following the Milwaukee Bucks star’s franchise-record 64-point performance.

Indiana coach Rick Carlisle said afterward the Pacers took the ball for Oscar Tshiebwe, who scored his first official NBA point in the contest.

That led to a confrontation between members of the teams in the arena hallway. Carlisle said several Bucks players, including Antetokounmpo, came into the Pacers tunnel looking for the ball and that a scuffle ensued. The coach said Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan was elbowed in the ribs by one of the Milwaukee players.

Antetokounmpo broke the team record of 57 set by Michael Redd in 2006 in a 113-111 loss to the Utah Jazz. Antetokounmpo’s previous career high was 55 in a 123-113 victory over Washington in January 2023. He had 54 at Indiana on Nov. 9.

Antetokounmpo was 20 of 28 from the field, made 24 of 32 free throws and had 14 rebounds.

Antetokounmpo was tackled by Aaron Nesmith on a play underneath with 10:10 remaining, setting off a brief heated exchange involving several players. Nesmith was called for a flagrant-1, and Nesmith and the Bucks’ Bobby Portis were assessed technical fouls.

Antetokounmpo hit both free throws, and Khris Middleton hit a jumper on the next possession to put the Bucks up 108-96. Portis was called for a second technical and ejected with 9:13 remaining, finishing with 19 points.  Antetokounmpo scored seven straight for the Bucks to push the lead to 118-100 with 6:26 left.

Damian Lillard added 21 points for the Bucks. Lillard’s second 3-pointer with 8:06 left in the third quarter was the 2,451st of his career, moving past Kyle Korver for fifth place in NBA history.

Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner had 22 points apiece for the Pacers, who beat the Bucks 128-119 in the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament on Thursday night.

The Buck host Detroit on Saturday night.

The Packers conducted a walk-through Wednesday as they get ready for Sunday’s home game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  The Packers hope to bounce back from a 24-22 Monday night road loss to the Giants,

Green Bay is 6-7 and trails the second place Minnesota Vikings who are 7-6.  The Lions lead the North with a 9-4 record.  The Buccaneers, 6-7, are tied with the Falcons and Saints for first place in the NFC South.

In Thursday Night Football two 5-8 teams square off in Las Vegas as the Raiders host the Chargers.

In college basketball Wisconsin hosts Jacksonville State University tonight.  The Badgers remain ranked 23rd this week.  Wisconsin is 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the Big ten while he Gamecocks are 4-6.  Tipoff is at 6:00 at the Kohl Center.

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Indiana Mad Ants 110 – 102.   Milwaukee Bucks two-way player Lindell Wigginton led the Herd with 17 points followed by Elijah Hughes with 15.

Indiana’s top scorer was Isaiah Wong with 22 points while Kyle Mangas added 17 points.

The Herd will return home to take on the Grand Rapids Gold on Friday, December 15 with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. CST.

Green Bay head coach Kevin Borseth accomplishes a feat achieved by only 15 other coaches in Division 1 and Division 2 women’s basketball, winning 800 games in a career. The Phoenix coach got it done with a 64-56 home win over UIC on Wednesday night.

Borseth began his coaching career in 1987 with Division II Michigan Tech and led the Huskies to. 225 wins over 11 seasons. He eventually went on to see even more success at Green Bay, and needs just 13 more victories to reach 500 over his two stints with the Phoenix.

Rowdy Tellez and the Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to a $3.2 million, one-year contract. The first baseman and designated hitter can earn $800,000 in performance bonuses as part of the deal, which is pending a successful physical.

The 28-year-old Tellez hit .215 with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs for Milwaukee in 2023. The left-handed batter is a career .233 hitter in six seasons with Toronto and Milwaukee.

The Pirates entered the offseason in need of help at first base. They began 2022 with Carlos Santana at the position before sending him to Milwaukee at the trade deadline. Connor Joe and Jared Triolo saw time at first, among others, over the final two months of the season.

Tellez should find the 21-foot-high Clemente Wall in right field at PNC Park inviting. He is a career .277 hitter at the ballpark, with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 21 games.
