RADIO SYSTEM UPGRADE
One of the big capital purchases for the City of Ripon in the 2024 City Budget was for the purchase of new radios for police and EMS. Fond du Lac County will be switching to a dual band for both VHF and an 800 megahertz system. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says spending $256,000 in one fell swoop for radios seems pricey but if they waited the cost would be going up another 11 to 12 percent or about $32,000 in the New Year. Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Amy Haase says they will slowly roll out the system with the Sheriff’s Department diving in already and some fire departments are already on the 800 megahertz system. Ripon used some of the additional shared revenue from the state to pay for the purchase of the radios.
TRANSGENDER PARTICIPATION IN COLLEGE SPORTS
One of the subcommittee’s Congressman Glenn Grothman serves on this past week investigated how the dismantling of Title IX has affected fairness in women’s college sports especially when it comes to allowing transgender players. A hearing was held by the House Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Healthcare and Financial Services. Grothman says one witness was a nationally known swimmer from the University of Kentucky. Grothman says the Biden Administration and college and university leadership are equally at fault for allowing transgenders regardless of how other team members feel about it. During the hearing the federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah also had a chance to question Riley Gaines of the Independent Women’s Forum and Sarah Perry of the Heritage Foundation.

Wisconsin Congressmen Mark Pocan and Glenn Grothman applaud the National Park Service for designating the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and North Country National Scenic Trail as units of the National Park System. This new status will increase funding and improve maintenance for the Wisconsin-based National Scenic Trails, and include them on official National Park Service maps.
