The Packers continue to get ready for the Chargers Sunday at Lambeau Field. The Chargers (4-5) will be facing a Green Bay team that’s starting to shed its reputation for slow starts. Now the Packers (3-6) need to become better finishers.

Green Bay comes into the game after losing on the road to Pittsburgh 23-19 last Sunday and will try to get off to a fast start offensively against the Chargers, who are led by quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert is having a good season, throwing for 2,349 yards and 17 touchdowns.

This marks the Chargers’ first trip to Lambeau Field since a 27-20 loss to the Packers in 2015. That was a wild game in which the Chargers’ Philip Rivers threw for 503 yards, but the Packers sealed the win with a fourth-and-goal stop from the 3 with 15 seconds left.

The Chargers haven’t won at Lambeau Field since 1984 but have only played here three times since.

Safety Rudy Ford (biceps) did not participate for a second straight day Thursday. Eight other players saw limited participation including CB

Kickoff is at noon with the pregame at 10:00 and will be heard on FM 1023, The Bug.

\In Thursday Night Football the Ravens won at home over the Bengals 34-20.

Bemgals quarterback Joe Burrow left the game wrist injury in the second quarter after throwing a touchdown pass to Joe Mixon and did not return.  Burrow finished 11-17 for 101 yards and a touchdown.  Jake Browning replaced Burrow and went 8-14 for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was 16-26 for 264 yards and two touchdowns.  Baltimore improved to 8-3 while Cincinnati dropped to 5-5.

In the NBA the Bucks are back in action tonight at Charlotte against the Hornets.

Pat Murphy had his first -press conference Thursday after officially being named the new manager of the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week.  He takes over for Craig Counsell, who announced last week he was living Milwaukee to become the manager of the Chicago Cubs.

Murphy, who turns 65 on Nov. 28, has three decades of experience running teams at the college and minor-league level. His only previous stint managing in the majors came in 2015, when he went 42-54 as the San Diego Padres’ interim manager after the firing of Bud Black.

Murphy coached Notre Dame when Counsell was an infielder for the Fighting Irish from 1989-1992. Murphy then spent the last eight seasons working for Counsell as his bench coach.

While searching for Counsell’s replacement, Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said he emphasized the importance of maintaining the continuity and culture that has helped the team earn five playoff appearances over the last six years while playing in Major League Baseball’s smallest market.

Arnold called Murphy a “glue” to that culture.

Former Brewer Rickie Weeks was named the team’s associate manager..

The Green Bay Packers announced Thursday that former tackle Bryan Bulaga, who was with Green Bay for 10 seasons (2010-19), has informed the club of his decision to retire with the Packers.

“We want to send our congratulations to Bryan on a wonderful career and thank him for his contributions to the Packers,” said General Manager Brian Gutekunst. “He was not only one of the premier right tackles in the National Football League, he was also a tremendous teammate who was key to the success of many teams. We wish him, his wife, Abbie, and their family all the best in the years ahead.”

The Packers said in a news release that Bulaga, who was originally selected by the Packers in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of the University of Iowa, started 111 of 115 regular-season games and all 13 postseason contests he appeared in for Green Bay. His 115 games played from 2010-19 were the most by a Packers offensive lineman over that span.

Bulaga began his career playing in 16 games with 12 starts and earning All-Rookie honors from the Professional Football Writers of America. He also started all four postseason contests that season, including the Super Bowl XLV victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bulaga was the first rookie in NFL history to start at right tackle in a Super Bowl win and was the youngest player at the time to start a Super Bowl (21 years, 322 days).

He also helped the Packers win six division titles, make the playoffs eight times and reach the NFC Championship four times. Bulaga blocked for offenses that ranked in the top 10 in points six times and in the top 10 in yards five times. He helped protect QB Aaron Rodgers during seasons where he was named NFL Most Valuable Player by The Associated Press twice (2011, ‘14), a Pro Bowler (2011-12, ‘14-16, ‘18-19) seven times, first-team All-Pro two times (2011, ‘14) and second-team All-Pro once (2012). Bulaga was part of a line that paved the way for RBs Eddie Lacy (758) and James Starks (601) in 2015 to become the first Green Bay duo since 1985 to each rush for 600-plus yards in the same season.

Bulaga finished his career starting 11 games for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020-21.

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Iowa Wolves 108-104. Stevie Thompson Jr. powered the Herd with 10 points in the first quarter to bring them within two points at the end of the first quarter. The two teams traded the lead 4 times during the second quarter, but Iowa ultimately came out on top 45-44 at half. The Wolves continued to increase their edge outscoring the Herd 33-25 in the third quarter. The Herd forced its way back in the fourth quarter with a huge comeback propelled by Elijah Hughes with 13 points. In the end, the Herd converted seven free throws in the last minute of the game to secure the win.

Elijah Hughes led the Herd with 20 points while Stevie Thompson Jr. added 19 points.

Phillip Wheeler guided the Wolves with 20 points while Trevor Keels followed with 19 points.

The Herd will take on the Iowa Wolves for a second time at home on Saturday, November 18 with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
