WINTER WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK
An official with Ready Wisconsin says when it comes to preparing a winter emergency kit it is best to plan for about three days. Andrew Beckett says if you’re snowed in or there’s a power outage it may take longer until plow and electrical crews can get to you especially in rural areas. He recommends putting away supplies for at least 72 hours. He also recommends a winter emergency kit for your car in case you go off the road and it takes a while for help to get to you. He says you should have an extra hat and glove, blankets, an ice scrapper, snow shovel, kitty litter in case you get stuck, and a cell phone charger. He also suggests rather than stocking water in your vehicle get in the habit of carrying it with you. Beckett says for your home it is best to replace your supplies once in a while. More tips are available at the Ready Wisconsin website. This week is Winter Weather Awareness Week.

DODGE COUNTY DISPATCH GRANT
On October 31st Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt received notification that Dodge County has been awarded a grant totaling more than $375,000 from the State of Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. This grant covers 90 percent of the funding for an upgrade to the sheriff’s dispatch center. There is a 10 percent match required for the grant totaling nearly $42,000. Earlier this year, the sheriff’s office was advised that two of its dispatch station radio consoles have reached end of life and will need to be replaced soon to ensure the sheriff’s office can properly receive 911 calls and dispatch appropriate resources. The cost to replace the equipment is the full cost of the grant and would have been solely a need to be covered by Dodge County tax levy had the grant not been received. The two stations serve as backup consoles for use during major incidents, or when dispatch station operations need to take place off-site from the main dispatch center.
