RIPON SCHOOLS TAX LEVY APPROVED
The Ripon School Board last night approved the 2024 Tax Levy. The $7.95 mill rate is less than last year’s rate of $8.15 and significantly less than the $12.43 mill rate from the 2014-15 school year. Although the school district taxes levied will be nearly $699,000 higher than the previous year, the mill rate will be the lowest since at least 1984. The falling mill rate is a result of the property value in the Ripon Area School District increasing by $99.5 million or 12.6 percent, allowing the taxes levied to spread over more property value. The levy amount for the upcoming fiscal school year will be $7 million, which includes $4.8 million for the operating budget, $2 million for debt service and $251,272 for community services. Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says, “The District is cognizant of the importance of keeping the mill rate down and achievement high so Ripon continues to be an attractive community for families to move into.”

GENERAL SCHOOL AID NUMBERS
Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction recently released the figures for general school aid amounts for each school district for the 2023-2024 academic year. Among the area school Districts receiving more aid than the previous school year are Berlin, Oshkosh, Princeton, Ripon, Rosendale-Brandon, Waupaca and Waupun. Those receiving less aid include Markesan and Wautoma. Some of those benefitting the most are Oshkosh which will receive $6.1 million more, Ripon getting over $350,000 more, Rosedale-Brandon getting a $469,000 increase, and Waupun with $714,000 increase. On the other hand Markesan will receive $372,000 less and the Wautoma Area School District $655,000 less. The general school aid amounts for school districts are calculated using student counts and year-end financial data from the previous school year. Overall 247 school districts received an increase, 168 will be getting less, and 6 districts will see no change. That works out to an overall increase of $160.6 million.
