10/16/23 Update on FDL County Sheriff K9 Iro
16 October 2023 News
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s K9 wounded during a shooting incident in Fond du Lac Saturday morning is recovering from surgery at a Veterinarian Hospital. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says K9 Iro remains in serious but stable condition and specialists are doing everything they can to help him. He was awake and alert Sunday morning recognizing his deputy handler, and he even got to spend a little time gnawing on a tennis ball, his favorite toy, before surgery. Waldschmidt says another hero was Dwyer, a yellow lab owned by one of the hospital veterinary technicians. Dwyer’s blood type was a match to Iro’s, and the vet tech and Dwyer wanted to donate his blood to help out Iro. The transfusion worked. Sheriff Waldschmidt says they also got numerous questions about how to donate to their K9 program to help cover the cost of medical bills, follow up services, and support for their K9 program. Checks can be made out to “FDL Sheriff K9 Program” and mailed to FDL Sheriff K9 Program, PO Box 1273, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin 54936-1273. In person donations can be made at the Sheriff’s Office lobby window in Fond du Lac. They can be made by check or credit card. You can also call 920-929-3372. (Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photos).
