FDL SHOOTING SUSPECT GOING TO TRIAL NEXT MONTH
A five-day jury trial is moving forward in Fond du Lac County court next month for one of the two Fond du Lac teens suspected of a gang related shooting. A status conference was held Wednesday for 19-year-old Lamarion Moore and the trial is scheduled for November 13th through the 17th. Moore and 17-year-old Adamite Willey are both charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide for a shooting at a Fond du Lac gas station on May 23rd. No one was injured in the shooting, but bullets struck the car a person was sitting in seven times. According to the criminal complaint the shooting was in retaliation for a shooting at the Maplewood Commons Apartments on May 7th which left 20-year-old Tatyanna Zech dead and several wounded. Parise Larry Jr. and Antonio Johnston have been charged with that homicide. The two shootings were connected to a beef between two gangs.
WEST BEND MAN CHARGED FOR TRYING TO FACILITATE SEX WITH MAYVILLE TEEN
Dodge County prosecutors have charged at 49-year-old West Bend man for allegedly using a computer to set up a meeting with a teenage girl for sex. Scott Fleischhacker made his initial court appearance Monday on a charge of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. He posted a $2,000 cash bond yesterday and will return to court for a preliminary hearing on November 16th. According to the criminal complaint a Mayville police officer responded to a post on Doublelist.com posing as a 13-year-old girl. The officer had an online conversation with Fleischhacker who allegedly asked, “What kind of things do you have experience with?” and “anything you wanted to try?’ A meeting was set up on October 7th in a park and he was taken into custody shortly after arriving at that park. When he was questioned Fleischhacker denied talking with the teenage girl and said he was on his way to Stevens Point.
WAUPACA COUNTY SOCIAL SECURITY SCAM
Waupaca County Sheriff’s officials are cautioning residents after they received a report from a citizen about receiving a phone call from someone posing as one of their Patrol Sergeants. The citizen was informed by the caller that they had a Social Security Warrant and were going to be arrested. Neither the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office nor any other Law Enforcement Agency would inform you over the phone that you have a Social Security Warrant out for you. The Sheriff’s Office recommends not giving money over the phone and not giving out your Social Security number to anyone over the phone so they can “verify” your Warrant status.
HIGHWAY 44 PROJECT IN WESTERN FDL COUNTY COMPLETE
The state Department of Transportation tells us all of the major construction to improve 3.6 miles of State Highway 44 in Fond du Lac County is complete. That nearly 4-mile stretch extended from the Fond du Lac west county line to State Highway 49 in the Village of Fairwater. The $1.5 million project began on August 14th. It finished on time and on budget. Improvements will reduce surface roughness and provide a smoother and safer ride for motorists. Improvements will also extend the life of the pavement structure while reducing future maintenance costs. Repair and replacement of culverts help ensure adequate drainage to mitigate possible flooding. Curb ramp work brings the ramps in compliance with the new ADA requirements. Northeast Asphalt of Greenville, Wisconsin was the prime contractor for the project.
REPRESENTATIVE PLUMER VOTES FOR CONTROVERSIAL LEGISLATION
State Representative Jon Plumer Thursday voted with his Republican colleagues in the State Assembly to pass transgender sports restrictions and gender-affirming surgery ban legislation. The state lawmaker from Lodi says, “As the father of 4 daughters, I cannot sit back and watch as females in high school and college sports are being forced to compete against biological males.” He adds that no child or college student is banned from playing any sport under the bills, but they must simply compete in the league that matches their sex. Under the other piece of legislation children under the age of 18 would not be allowed to use puberty blocking drugs or have life-altering surgeries to change their gender. Plumer says once they reach the age of 18 they would be free to do as they please. The two pieces of legislation now head to the State Senate. Governor Evers has vowed to veto the legislation.
MARIAN UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES DR GEORGE KOONCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Dr. George Koonce is bringing busloads of high school students from Milwaukee to Lambeau Field, but not for a football game. He wants these students to see that while there are 60 players for the Green Bay Packers, there are 1,500 more employees who work for the Packers organization on game days. It’s part of Koonce’s larger game plan: the Dr. George E. Koonce Scholars Program at Marian University in Fond du Lac. The trip to Lambeau Field includes a Lunch and Learn where students hear about Marian University’s academic programs and athletics, along with the support services to help them be successful in college. Koonce, a former linebacker with the Packers for eight seasons, says, “I want them to see there is a world of opportunity, when they earn a college degree. Mark Murphy, President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, sees Koonce as an inspiration for the future scholars. Dr. Koonce is currently Senior Vice President for University Relations at Marian University. You can read more about Koonce and the scholarship at the Marian University website. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters that the state’s 2023 pheasant season opens at 9 am tomorrow morning and will run through January 7th. Pheasant hunters need a valid small game license and a 2023 Pheasant Stamp, which can be purchased through the Go Wild website or a licensed sales location. There is a special daily bag limit of one rooster per day over this opening weekend. Starting Monday the daily bag limit increases to two roosters per day. That limit will remain in place for the remainder of the season. Hunters may harvest a rooster or hen when hunting in designated hen and rooster hunting areas. Several pheasant hunting properties close at noon on weekdays beginning Monday and running through November 3rd. Hunters are encouraged to double-check the legal shooting hours on the properties they intend to hunt and consult the DNR’s hunting rules and regulations before going out. KIDS CHAMPION
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wisconsin last month presented their 2023 Champion for Children Award to State Representative Alex Dallman. It was presented to him at the Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area offices in Berlin. The state lawmaker from Green Lake is no stranger to those offices having met with CEO Jason Presto and the management team at various times. He says Boys & Girls Clubs play a pivotal role in the development of children across our state and make a lasting impact on their lives. He says he was able to lead a charge to get $5 million from the state for the Wisconsin After 3 program and Be Great Graduate program. Dallman says he’s fortunate to have three Boys & Girls Clubs in the 41st District which he represents and has seen first-hand how impactful the clubs can be to children.
