TEEN ARRESTED FOLLOWING FDL COUNTY PURSUIT

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies cut off the pursuit of a stolen vehicle Monday afternoon when they learned the driver was a 14-year-old boy. Deputies were investigating a report about a stolen vehicle at noon when they located it in the Village of Campbellsport. When deputies tried to stop the vehicle its speed was increased and the vehicle headed out of the village south on County Highway V. Deputies cut off their pursuit due to the age of the driver and safety concerns but continued to follow the vehicle’s path. Along that route they located areas where the vehicle went off the road striking a stop sign and mail box. The boy was located in the Village of Kewaskum in Washington County and the stolen vehicle north of that village. Kewaskum Police assisted in taking him into custody and he was taken to Froedtert Medical Center in West Bend for precautionary measures. Charges are being referred to Juvenile authorities.

PRATT TRAIL PROJECT DELAYED DUE TO ARCHAELOGICAL DISCOVERY

Reconstruction of Menominee Park’s Pratt Trail has been underway since August, and scheduled completion will be delayed due to archaeological work that is taking place at the site. At one time the site may have been home to a Native America Village circa AD 900 to 1600. The City of Oshkosh went through proper channels to ensure compliance with state laws that protect our state’s heritage, including archaeological sites. The University of Milwaukee has been active at the site since before the beginning of the road work. The City of Oshkosh asks that visitors to Menominee Park respect the restricted areas of the park to allow the archeological teams to complete their work, which is ongoing. The area is under surveillance. Numerous fall and winter events in Menominee Park are being relocated due to this ongoing project.

NEW RIPON CITY POSITION MORPHED OUT OF ANOTHER

Although the City of Ripon has created a new Assistant Public Works Director position it won’t cost the city anything extra when that person is hired. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says when the City Utilities Director left they looked at it as an opportunity to combine that department with public works so the Assistant Public Works Director position is basically being created out of the former Utilities Director position. Sonntag says the Assistant Public Works Director will be responsible for the city’s utilities, but also will contribute to public works in general. He says that should make for more efficient policy implementation, more efficient practices, and planning efforts. He points out the position will help them tackle some very significant infrastructure issues that the community faces. Details about the position can be found on the city’s website. The deadline to apply is October 27th.

COVID BOOSTER SHOT RECOMMENDED

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller recommends getting the new COVID-19 booster shot before the holidays sneak up on us. The CDC is recommending one dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 5 years of age or older. Children ages 6 months to 4 years need multiple doses of COVID-19 vaccines to be up-to-date, including at least 1 dose of updated COVID-19 vaccine. Mueller says the latest COVID-19 booster will protect people against the latest variants of the disease. She recommends getting vaccinated at least a couple weeks before the holidays so your body can build up the antibodies needed for proper protection. It is estimated that over 4 million Americans have already received the latest COVID-19 booster.
