After an off-day Thursday the Brewers continue their road trip tonight with the opener of a three-game series against the Yankees.   Colin Rea (5-5, 5:07 ERA starts for the Brewers against New York right-hander Luis Severino (4-8, 6.75 ERA.  First pitch is at 6:05 CDT.

In the NL Central Thursday the Padres beat the Cubs 6-2 and the Braves downed the Cardinals 8-5. The Brewers lead the Cubs by 2 games and the Reds by 5 ½ in the division.

The Packers continue to get ready for thsir season-opener Sunday against the Bears at Soldier Field.

The Packers received mixed news about their injury situation at wide receiver Thursday as Romeo Doubs practiced on a limited basis while Christian Watson remained out.

Watson and Doubs, Green Bay’s top two returning wideouts, both are dealing with hamstring injuries as quarterback Jordan Love prepares to begin his first season as the Packers’ starting quarterback.

“He took a couple of reps within each team period and the routes on air,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said about Doubs. “And he looked good.”

Doubs wasn’t making any guarantees about whether he’d be available for Sunday. which will mark Love’s second career start.

The pregame is at 1:00 with the kickoff at 3:25 and can be heard on FM 1023, The Bug.

Jared Goff threw for 253 yards and a touchdown, new Lions running back David Montgomery ran for the go-ahead score with 5:05 remaining in the game, and Detroit held on for a sloppy 21-20 victory over the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL’s season opener Thursday night.

Amon-Ra St. Brown had six catches for 71 yards and a score, and Lions rookie Brian Branch returned Patrick Mahomes’ first pick in an opener 50 yards for another touchdown, helping Detroit snap the Chiefs’ eight-game Week 1 winning streak.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was 21-39 for 226 yards, two touchdowns and the interception return for a touchdown. Kansas City only managed 90 yards rushing.

The Lions were trying to run out the clock when Goff had a fourth-down pass near midfield batted down with 2:30 left, giving the Chiefs a chance. But they made a mess of it: Kadarius Toney dropped a potential 20-yard gain, a deep completion was called back for holding, Skyy Moore dropped a pass and a false start left Mahomes heaving a fourth-and-25 throw downfield.

When it fell incomplete and Detroit took over, Montgomery ran for a first down that allowed the Lions to run out the clock.

In college football Saturday #19 Wisconsin (1-0) plays at Washington at Washington State.  Kickoff is at 6:30.   The Badgers opened the season at home last Saturday with a  38-17 win over Buffalo.  You can hear all of the action on AM 1600/93.1 FM, WRPN.

Ripon College (0-1( is at Grinnell College with the kickoff at 1:00.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) is at Wheaton College (Ill.)  Kickoff is at 1:00.

Beginning Thursday, the Green Bay Packers began offering a limited amount of standing-room-only tickets for purchase for each regular-season contest at Lambeau Field this season.

The tickets, priced at $93 each (plus applicable fees), allow fans to stand in the area behind Sections 432s to 442s, on the fourth level of Lambeau Field’s South End. The Packers said in addition to standing behind the seating sections in that area, game attendees can use the viewing platforms on either side of the sections. Concession stands and restrooms are readily available in the concourse area.

Tickets are currently are available for purchase online. To access the page to purchase tickets, visit packers.com/tickets and click on individual games to view available tickets. The tickets will be listed as “Standing Room Only.”

Packers established a limit of eight per household. Additionally, the Packers said in a statement Thursday that tickets are not able to be resold on NFL Ticket Exchange.

The Cincinnati Bengals have secured the future for their long-term quarterback.

Joe Burrow reached an agreement on a five-year, $275 million extension with the team that includes $219.01 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.

The contract averages $55 million per year. The deal ends months of negotiations and rewards a player who has flipped Cincinnati’s fortunes.
