After an off-day the Brewers return to action tonight hosting the Cardinals in the first of a three-game series. Adrian Houser (7-4, 4.35 ERA) starts against left-hander Zack Thompson (5-7, 4.57) Milwaukee can clinch the NL Central with a win or a Cubs loss at Atlanta. First pitch is at 6:40 from American Family Field.
There were no games scheduled Monday in the Central Division.
The Packers are back on the practice field today in a short week heading up to Thursday night’s home game against the Detroit Lions. Both teams are 2-1 with the Packers coming up with a thrilling come-from-behind 18-17 win Sunday in their home opener against the Saints.
The Packers will practice a little longer today.
“Just making sure these guys are getting some recovery nonstop,” Packers head coach Matt LaFLeur said. “They have to make sure they get the proper nutrition, proper sleep, just doing everything in their power to get their bodies back.”
“You’re also cramming in a lot of information in a short period of time. They’ve got to be able to digest all that.”
It’s also a short week for the team’s injured players. If the Packers would’ve practiced Monday, Aaron Jones and Rashan Gary would have been limited. The rest of the injury list would not have participated, and that includes Zach Tom who went down in the 4th quarter in the Saints game with a knee injury. LaFleur said he’s doing better but will be day-to-day. The Packers’ ground attack isn’t the same without Aaron Jones, who has missed two games with a hamstring injury. Green Bay is averaging 3.4 yards per carry.
LaFleur said Monday the status for both Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson is uncertain for Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Packers were flagged 11 times Sunday and have 27 penalties this season and that’s something they’re going to have to correct going forward. Only the Carolina Panthers have been penalized more often.
The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, have acquired the returning player rights to Marcus Bingham and a first-round pick (via Raptors 905) in the 2024 NBA G League Player Draft from the Texas Legends in exchange for the returning player rights to Joe Wieskamp.
Marcus Bingham, a 7-0, 230-pound forward played college basketball at Michigan State (2018-22) where he averaged 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 53% from the field in 18.7 minutes per game. After his time at Michigan State, Bingham appeared in five games during the 2022 NBA Summer League and averaged 5.4 points. In September 2022, the Michigan native was signed to the Dallas Mavericks but was later waived.
