BOND ADJUSTED FOR FDL FIREFIGHTER SUSPECTED OF POSSESSING CHILD PORN
Bond has been reduced for a 50-year-old Fond du Lac firefighter suspected of possessing child pornography. Edgar Ramirez-Tellez was in Fond du Lac County court for a hearing Monday. His bond was cut in half to $250,000 cash and a preliminary hearing has been rescheduled to September 29th. A motion to reduce the bond to a signature bond was denied. The 18-year veteran of Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue has been placed on administrative leave. He is charged with 10 counts of possessing child pornography. Agents with the state’s Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation interviewed him at Fond du Lac Fire Station #3 in early August. Ramirez-Tellez admitted to having sexually explicit images of children on his cell phone and a tablet he brought to work in his lunch cooler. According to the criminal complaint he told the agents he was thankful law enforcement intervened because otherwise he may have never stopped seeking out the inappropriate content of children.
PARDEEVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER
Bond was set at $1 million cash for a 79-year-old Pardeeville man charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of a Town of Wyocena woman. Larry Manthe made his initial appearance in Columbia County court Monday on the charge stemming from the October 6th, 2022 death of 76-year-old Alice Langer. Columbia County Sheriff’s officials say Langer was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head in the residence she shared with Manthe. She was in a long-term relationship with him at the time of her death, but she intended to end the relationship and move out of the house. Manthe is being held in the Columbia County Jail. He will return to court on October 25th.
TEEN BACK IN COURT ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES
A 15-year-old North Fond du Lac boy suspected of being party to a shooting incident in North Fond du Lac on Labor Day was back in Fond du Lac County court Tuesday. Noah Metcalf’s initial hearing from last Friday was continued. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 28th. His co-defendant, 20-year-old Jaysen Fix of Fond du Lac, will have his preliminary hearing on December 7th. According to the criminal complaint Metcalf had a recent break up with someone living in the 700 block of Michigan Avenue and led Fix to believe that the people living in that home were going to call child protective services on him about his infant child. Fix determined “to go deal with them.” Metcalf gave him directions to the home. Fix allegedly fired five rounds into the home. Two people were sitting on a couch in a living room and another person was upstairs. No one was wounded by the gunfire, but debris from the bullets striking the home cut one person’s hand. Fix and Metcalf are facing attempting first degree intentional homicide, first degree recklessly endangering safety, and endangering safety/reckless use of a firearm charges. CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND SIGN THEFTS REPORTED IN GREEN LAKE COUNTY
Green Lake County Law Enforcement agencies received reports of 4 catalytic converter thefts in the past few weeks. The reports came from the Town of Brooklyn, Town of Green Lake, and City of Green Lake. The Sheriff’s Office also received reports of thefts of signs on local roadways in the Town of Brooklyn and the Town of Marquette. The Sheriff’s Office is appealing for help. Anyone with information is being urged to call the Green Lake County Crime Stoppers phone number 1-800-GET-THEM, that’s 1-800-438-8436. You can also text GETTHEM at 847411. Tips may be eligible for up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects. You can report your tips anonymously.
KRAFT SINGLES AMERICAN CHEESE RECALL
Kraft Heinz is recalling more than 83,800 cases of individually-wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices. The reason-part of the wrapper could stick to the slice and become a choking hazard. Officials with Kraft say one of its wrapping machines developed a temporary issue that makes it possible for a thin strip of film to remain on the slice even after it’s been removed from the wrapper. The machine has been fixed. The voluntary recall affects 16-ounce Kraft Singles America Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with a “Best When Used By” date between January 10th, 2024 and January 27th, 2024. Also included in the recall are 3-pound multipacks of Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with a “Best When Used By” date between January 9th, 2024 and January 13th, 2024. The cheese should be returned to the store where it was purchased for exchange or a refund. KEEPING THE BREWERS IN MILWAUKEE A PRIORITY
State Representative Jon Plumer says he was fortunate enough to sit in on negotiation sessions for the Milwaukee Brewers Stadium improvement package and efforts to keep the team in Milwaukee. Republican legislators Monday unveiled their $614 million plan that would keep the team in Milwaukee through 2050. The state funding will come directly from the income tax generated within the stadium district. Plumer says Brewer and visiting team salaries generate about $12 million a year in state income taxes. He says incomes taxes from those salaries and the stadium district would pay for the plan. The city of Milwaukee would be asked to contribute a total of $202 million and Milwaukee County would kick in $135 million by 2050. Plumer says if the state didn’t make necessary repairs to the stadium by next year they would be in default on the lease and the team could break that lease and leave Wisconsin, the plan will prevent that from happening.
STATE PATROL AERIAL PATROL IN FDL COUNTY TODAY
The Wisconsin State Patrol pilots will be keeping an eye out for traffic violations from the air during an enforcement effort in Fond du Lac County today. Specifically the effort is for drivers who will be speeding or driving aggressively on Interstate 41. Other efforts this week include aerial patrols of US 51 in Oneida County Friday, I-43 in Walworth County Saturday, and State Highway 57 in Door County Sunday. When a pilot observes a violation, they communicate with ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop.
UNITED WAY FUNDRAISER
Registration is underway for an event next month that will support the Fond du Lac County United Way’s fundraising campaign. Fond du Lac Regional Clinic is the pacesetter for this year’s campaign. Their goal is to raise $50,000 of the campaign’s ultimate goal of $575,000. Fond du Lac Regional Clinic will host a costume benefit gala at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts in Fond du Lac on Saturday, October 21st at 6 pm. United Way Executive Director Amber Kilawee says attendees are encouraged to dress in attire from their favorite decade. The gala’s theme is “Caring for Generations Across the Decades.” Music will be by the Reilly’s, an Irish Band formerly known as Tinker Boys. The United Way is celebrating its 75th anniversary in Fond du Lac County. The Clinic is celebrating its 50th year of incorporation and they have been around for 107 years. YPF CASINO NIGHT IN FDL COMING UP FRIDAY
The Young Professionals of Fond du Lac will hold their annual Casino Night Friday from 6 to 10:30 pm at Korneli’s on the Avenue in Fond du Lac. The evening features food, drinks and gambling for a good cause. Envision Greater Fond du Lac Vice President of Membership and Resource Development Joe Venhuizen says proceeds will go toward the Fond du Lac Soccer Association. He says they host events for both youth and adult soccer leagues and has a tremendous impact on youth sports. Tickets are available through the Envision Greater Fond du Lac website or the YPF Facebook page. Young Professionals of Fond du Lac is an Envision program.
MERONK TRACK AND FIELD DEDICATION
A new location and start time for the Oshkosh West High School homecoming game will allow the community to recognize and celebrate the impact of the late Robert H. Meronk. The homecoming game, scheduled for Friday, September 29th will now be played on school grounds, at the brand new Robert H. Meronk Track and Field. The field is located off of Westfield Avenue. Kick-off will be at 7 pm. One of the highlights of the evening will be the official public dedication of the Robert H. Meronk Track and Field during halftime. Coach Meronk’s family will be present for the occasion. Coach Meronk was an educator, coach and mentor. His unwavering support for the school and community left a lasting impact on countless individuals. He was inducted into the Oshkosh West Hall of Fame in 2013. Aside from the homecoming game, Oshkosh West varsity football games will continue to be held at Titan Stadium for the foreseeable future.
